Those are the "whitest" areas when you cut down a bud, I also thought the same, there are no leaves there, and they get all the nutes they need.....i've read the plant part with the highest concentration of psychoactives is the calyx, a plant part which is usually nestled at the crux of branch junctions. these things:

It's actually what higher-quality bud is primarily formed from - dense, hard calyxes. The fluffy stuff composed of hair and leaf isn't as good. So it gives me this theory that the nicest buds are the ones that grow where calyxes are originally formed, at the junction of branches. They sit at the middle of crossroads of a highway and a freeway, they don't have to do any photosynthesis work, they just sit there grabbing everything they need as it passes and pumping out psychoactives.
oh yeah, next year won't be all about topping, LST + topping, 1 plant 100 headsI think you're right about more light = better buds. The top buds that receive the most direct sunlight are going to be the better buds, while the lower ones that receive less light will not develop as well. I'm new to growing, but from what I've read, this is why people do things like scrog and LST. Creating an even canopy where more areas are exposed to the direct light will create more 'tops' instead of one dominant cola and a bunch of smaller popcorn buds underneath.
I've got a few plants growing outdoor right now and I tried tying down one of them. The one that I tied down now has 11 or 12 tops receiving the same amount of light. This is one of the helpful things I've learned from the people on this site. There is quite a bit of good info here.
I think it's because of what AirAnt said.. they're in the crossroads where all the nutes they need go though..I think the middle height of the plant has the best buds honestly. NNot the biggest, but the most crystallized and potent. This is just my opinion, but every plant I harvested under an indoor environment, the highest buds were biggest. But the medium level buds had way bigger calyx and crystals. Not sure why that is, but the buds shaded from a leaf, for me anyways, always seem much better. Maybe because those buds get some shade on a sunny day
lol yeah ofcourse it's hard to tell, but just like in a cow, there must be better partsI just chuck it all in a jar and it is allll goodOther than bag appeal, i've not really found any bud to be noticeably better than the rest.
No doubt! I shoulda read through the comments, that totally makes sense for sureI think it's because of what AirAnt said.. they're in the crossroads where all the nutes they need go though..
Animals have better parts because they live a life of movement. If they just stood in a breeze in a perfectly controlled constant climate from birth to slaughter it would all be tender.lol yeah ofcourse it's hard to tell, but just like in a cow, there must be better parts![]()
So the conclusion is - LST your plant so the nodes will get a lot of sun, and get the best quality and quantity all togetherNo doubt! I shoulda read through the comments, that totally makes sense for sure
I see, so from you I understand, when harvesting, it's a good idea to take the top buds off first, wait few days and take another layer of buds so all will be totally mature.Animals have better parts because they live a life of movement. Just saying that from my experience, if the bud is mature, then i've never found it matters which part of the plant it came from. The key word though is mature.
You LST your plants so that you have an even canompy (and keep things short) meaning that the highest number of budsites possible will be as close to the light as possible meaning getting the maximum possible lumens meaning bigger buds. It's not generally done under the notion of the top buds being better in terms of potency, but in terms of yield, because the top buds are at the top, and get the best light. So the conclusion is - LST your plant so the nodes will get a lot of sun, and get the best quality and quantity all together![]()
I have done it this way many times. It's a well known practice, but typically i would just chop the whole thing down to hell with white hairs lower down. Yield was never of importance to me.I see, so from you I understand, when harvesting, it's a good idea to take the top buds off first, wait few days and take another layer of buds so all will be totally mature.
