which light cycle do you think works best for vegging?

Many differnet people use different light times...24/0, 18/6, 16/8, and 14/10, but the last one not very many people use.

The thing to remember is how long do you want your plant to veg for? Longer light cycles takes the plant longer to sex, whereas shorter mean sexing quicker, but it also depends on the plant itself...it will sex when it's ready. I personally use 16/8, 2 reasons: 1) less energy used 2)they show sex earlier.

Plants will still grow during your dark period...it will help strenghten the plant since it will do any minor repairs to itself, and build stronger roots. People will argue that no dark is fine and that the plant will do repairs on it's own...this is true...but it takes more of the plants energy to do it.

As long as you tend to them and baby them, it won't matter what cycle you use...you should get some healthy beautiful girls:joint::mrgreen:

Just follow Mother Nature. You want to replicate summer hours when there is 18 hours of sunshine and 6 hours of dark. When you flower, you want to replicate Fall when there is 12 hours of sunshine and 12 hours of dark.

if you are using HPS or MH,the ballast need cool off time or you will shorten the life of your ballast.

My opinion seedlings should have 16/8 keep light around 10-12 inches from plant.
First set of mature leaves go to 18/6 or 20/4. I have grown many times at 24/0.
I feel 24 hours of light is not a natural environment for the plant it can cause stress.
I have found no difference in the growth of plant when I grew under 18/6 or 20/4.
Verses 24/0 I did have less stress problems and the plants seemed happier I have gotten more females and none that turned herm like when under 24
Plant needs time to rest.

Light cycles or anything at all will NEVER determine whether or not you get males or females...in fact it's all in the genetics of the seed.

Females just prefer a shorter light cycle of around 16/8.

go with 24 hours on unless hps or mh is your lamp, plants grow twice as quick, and roots grow extremely fast here some 11 day old seeds under 200 watt cfl 24 hours on

I like to use a more natural approach to growing...the plants respond better that way.

Just read my first post and that will help you make a decision...all techniques are good, as long as the end product is what you want!

I do 22/2. I know its weird but it gives roots some dark so they can grow and gives the plant a little time to repair itself.
