Which size pot for 4x4 grow tent?

I have a 4x4x 6.5 inches tall. I plan on growing 4 plants. Veg for about 8 weeks and Flower for 8-10 weeks. I have purchased most of my supplies, but now I’m running into which size pots I should get for the 4 plants. I was thinking starting seeding in red solo cups, then bringing them to 3 Gal, then over to a 5 Gal. Do you think that would be good? Or do you think I would be able to make the jump from 3Gal to 7Gal for the 4 plants with the amount of space I have for the tent? This is my first grow, so I’m tryinf to get everything right as much as I can so I can have a good first grow/ experience

The more space you can give your roots the better, it has to work for your app, but get them as big as you can!

As OneGreenThumb suggested, the bigger (generally speaking) the better. With that being said...you don't want to get a bucket thats taller and gives you less vertical growing space. 5 Gallon buckets should be just right. If you can fit in 7 gals buckets then hey, do it to it! But the heighth is what I would be concerned about with that. Anyways, hope your grow goes well it's a pretty great hobby and an amazing experience. Are you going to do soil, coco, or hydroponics?

I plan on doing soil. I hear it’s more forgiving than the others. I was concerned about the height of the plant. That’s why I was stuck between a 5 and 7 Gal. I know it depends on the strains and type of cannabis, but how tall does a plant that veg/ Flower for that long usually get (based on past experience)

As big as you can fit...

5gal will work, better go bigger if using plastic, 5gal cloth pots works good, 7 would be great, more than that is a waste for 4 plants in a 4x4.
3gal up to 7 is fine.
Most of the cloth pots stay the same height while having bigger diameter. (as in 5gal is same height as 10gal)
Plastic usually get slightly taller as size goes up

I'm using 10 gallons in a 4x4 and wouldn't want to go any smaller. It's just more forgiving and your plant will take advantage of the room and develop roots throughout the whole pot. I'd go bigger, but I have some chronic pain issues and this is about the upper edge of what I want to be moving around.
A swimming pool no till bed would be rad.....

Also depends how big you want your plants to be and how many you want to have, and how they are structured. I run 4, have heard of people running 1 (big!) and I think there's a thread here where someone has like 18 in a 4x4. For how I grow 4 seems to be the sweet spot. 8 was a mistake, 6 was doable, but a crowded mess.

Based on what I’ve read from a bunch of forums/ threads that I should expect about 1lb for a total of 4 plants in a 4x4 with a 1000w hps for Flower and 600w mh for veg. I’m going to start reading up a little more on training my plants, but I would like to at least 1lb from the 4 plants. So I was thinking going from solo cup-3Gal-5gal. As far as the size, I want them as big as they will get within the 4-6month time frame. I would like to get the best bang for my buck. Know what I mean? If you think going from 3-7 Gal would be better, then I’ll try that this go round. Right now I have 3 Gal and 5 Gal in my amazon cart, but just waiting to hear everybody’s thoughts and opinions. I really appreciate EVERYBODY’s comments!

yeah, go big. Don't be upset if you dont hit that mark, things need to be dialed in to get 1lb+. That said if you do it right you can far exceed that mark. Reading and learning is 100% the best thing you can do for your grow so it sounds like you are off to a great start!

Thanks! Luckily I have anxiety/ adhd, so it’s working to my benefit to over research everything so that I don’t screw up as much lol I will give y’all updates when my seeds finally come in! Hopefully all goes well!

If your vegging for a good while for size, then I'd go with 4 - 7 gallon pots in a 4x4 which would allow you to do as much LST or HST for as long as you want to veg which would allow you to utilize all your space and spread your plant out for a good yield. With a long veg, you can mess with all the variables you want while not having to think about whether or not your plant is getting seriously root bound. A bigger pot will also mean less frequent watering since it would take longer for the 7 gallon to dry out so there are pros and cons to that depending on how much attention you plan on giving your plants and how much time you have to give to them.

Are your seeds feminized or regular?

I used to use 5 gallons but switched to 3 gallons they do the same thing anyways

I’ve never heard of either. I’ll have to do some more research today! lol

After reading on both, I’m still not sure which to do. LST seems a bit easier to do, but still unsure. I will probably watch some YouTube videos on it in about 3.5 hours (during lunch break), then kinda go from there. Have any of you did either LST or HST? If so, which did you like more/ which gave you the best yield and potency/ would be best for this type of set up?

Some people do both. Grow weed easy is a good place to read up on training/techniques and etc. On my first grow I did low stress training in an effort to 'flatten' my plant out so it can get a more even amount of light for a canopy that I train to be more flat than it naturally would look. People call this screen of green or scrog for short which involves a net and a lot of tucking. This would help utilize more space in your 4x4. Combined with a high stress technique such as topping would also help utilize the full 4x4 space. Its all up to what you want to do for your first time growing and how complicated you want to get. Just remember if you do any training, you should let the plant recover after whatever you have done with it especially if its a HST.

I would recommend looking into grow journals that use soil and the light you have to see the results other people are getting with the training they use.
Also, take everything with a grain of salt.
