White slime on clone stems

Before you tell me to do 35% H2O2 or hydroguard aqua shield I've already read those threads… this case is slightly different because the only stems that are developing this slime are older cuttings that have wilted from the top…

The point of this thread is that I'm wondering if that white slime is really just a sign of plant death and not something to try to cure because 4 / 4 fresh cuttings placed in a aero cloner at the same time as 9 older cuttings (saved from an earlier failed method of cloning) did not exhibit slime while 7/9 older cuttings had a white slime and 2/9 older cuttings had a brown slime.

Water temp ~75 F
Water (originally pH'd at 5.7 checked 5 days later (when i found the slime) and the water had somehow gotten back to 7!?) currently pH'd at 5.8 again and includes 2 mL hydroguard
Air temp 70 F

Anything else worth mentioning?

this happens to me alot. iv tried cutting of the white/brown and doing the 45 degree cut n scoring the stem with no luck. its a sign of death in my opinion. i added an air pump and leave a neoprene insert slightly offset to let air out. that has worked great in relieving the heat from the pump. my next step is a new pump and a timer to turn on the pump every few minutes. iv noticed that if your mother isnt in good health cloning is more difficult.

Yes it is a sign of death, not curing of anything.
75 is way to high for water temp!!!!!
Those cuts are toast son, sorry I can't give you good news. I've had that problem back before I realize that heat was a death sentence in hydro. I ran a homemade aero bucket and cuts died in water above 70-72. I switched to using rockwool and have no such problems. Good luck.

Once the slime appears the clone are toast. Have to get water temps lower. Timer that is 1 minute on 4 minutes off works well, but in higher temps rockwool or even dirt works better for me.

In fact I switch to rockwool and I typically never lose a clone. I don't use any gel/powder or rooting agent. Just plain tap/well water or if R/O I use a tiny amount of GH micro to add some salts to the water.

Every time I tried using root gel or rooting agent, I got the slime. So I don't use that shit. Just cut at 45 degree angle and split/roughup the outside of the stem, and great results.

Leaving neoprene insert slightly offset seems like a good idea, giving that a try thanks.

Also for whatever reason the designers seem to think running the machine 24/7 is what i should do… it seemed excessive to me but I gave it a shot. Currently on for 5 off for 7

I agree, 75 degree water is like boiling a plant 62-66 for my reservoir. Have'nt come across this slime yet, hope I never do, Hope the OP doesn't again.

yea i just shut off my ez cloner till i can set it up elsewhere, got the rockwool soaking...

Thanks for the help everybody. I'm realizing now that the heat problem is coming up possibly because the material is made of plastic and also possibly because this particular motor just runs very hot.

I've also added some ice and i have the container sitting on an ice bag so hopefully that will do something.

Im a bit nervous about rock wool becase I already experienced a complete failure using jiffy pellets so i'm keeping the stems bare. Hope you don't run into overwatering issues greenghost420
