Who Knows About Peyote?

I recently got my peyote cactus in and planted it. its a beautiful mature specimin, about 4 inches in diameter and 2 inches thick (above the root). As a bonus there is a baby button (1 cm) growing off one side. Not much of a gardener, i have read online about grafting. I know i can graft that button onto something lik a peruvian torch, but was wondering if anyone knew if i could graft it on to any type of cactus. In my area Prickly Pear cactus are extrememly prvelant, and I was thinking about attempting to graft it onto one of these, since they are extremely fast growing. Anyne know if this will work?

It will work, but prickly pear are not ideal, flattened stems with irritating glochids that stick in your flesh.

Popular choices for grafting stock are Trichocereus pachanoi (San Pedro) and Myrtillocactus geometrizans - both quite commin in garden centres.

But why graft it anyway? Peyote are not slow growing cacti - I can produce a flowering adult from seed in 2 years. Why not leave it where it is? The pup will produce its own flowers and seeds.

are you shitting me?! its that easy to get them now?!! Thats wonderful. I was supposed to be taught how to do it when I came of age, but the only relatives that practiced it died before that happened, I thought that was the end of it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not above doing acid just for the ride, but my interest in peyote is spiritual, not recreational...

Man ive dreamed of a spiritual trip with peyote many of nights possibly in a cave or domestic desert like area so i dont get lost in the desert and die but im def subbed, gotta see how this turns out

Good buddy of mine participated in the spiritual ceremony of the Native Americans in Utah with the sweatlodge/vision quest (ayahuasca brew) and what I found most interesting was how they sent him off after having drank the brew. After a series of rounds in the sweatlodge, they presented him the brew, and told him, "Start walking. When the sun sets, you will know where to stay for the night. The sun will set, and you will know you have found where you are supposed to be." He concurred that after walking for miles and vomiting profusely across his trek in the desert, that he did indeed feel at ease when the sun had set. It's fair to say, it's an "otherworldly" substance.

Is it that you smoke the flower of the catus, or is it that you smoke the entire plant after it has throughly dried out?

I have no experience with cacti, but I assume you would eat it like you do mushrooms, or drink the juices from the plant.

About the grafting thing, you need to use a cactus with the right growth properties to make a nice graft. For yote's I recommend pereskiopsis. Its a freaky little cactus with leaves.
