etymology unknown..probably just dumb stoners using a tern incorrectly and it stuck.

Cola
/ˈkoʊlə/

Definition

Common Noun
1. In cannabis cultivation a cola is the part of a female cannabis plant where the flowers or buds grow together tightly at the tip of the plant stem. The botanical term for this is the terminal bud. Healthy plants usually form one main cola from the centre of the rhisomatic structure, with smaller colas forming around the outside. Various training and trimming techniques can be used to increase the amount of large colas that a plant will form, which increases the yield of usable material.

2. A carbonated soft drink containing an extract made from kola nuts (as in Coca-Cola),
3. The plural of colon.

Origin

Unknown, though the word use in. re. soft drink dates from 1886.

Cola is tail in Spanish, if you "make a tail" you are "standing in line/forming a line" like at the bank or whatever.

I'm imagining that the long group of buds that we know as a cola looked like a tail, or cola, to somebody and they coined the term.

EtymologyEdit

From a contraction of the preposition con (“with”) + neuter singular article lo (“the”).

ContractionEdit

colo n (masculine col, feminine cola, masculine plural colos, feminine plural coles)

just a guess on my part but it makes some sense

Because the name coca cola is widely popular. So the stoners who came up with the term cola and made it official were obviously high as fuck with cotton mouth went to their fridge by their grow op(everybody has an extra fridge by there grow op and pulled out a good ol fashioned coca cola and went to his garden and did a toast with his biggest bud. There for giving the term cola to the biggest bud,

This answer has been true for over 40 years! All the other answers seem to be nothing more than bad guesses and bogus references to Soda cans.

A cola is nothing more than a big, fat, tail!
