Why not to use MG potting mix

I put this in the NEWB section, but it could go for indoor too. So i know there are countless threads and posts about MG (miracle grow) and basically everyone knows to not use it unless you have to (i found out the hard way). I've had that crap sit at like a pH of 3.5 out of the bag, along with fungus gnats and i think i got spider mites from that POS soil too, once :wall:. At any rate, i have a question after that little rant. I'm using schultz potting mix, vermiculite, and schutlz organic garden soil in a little bastard mix I've created and its doing okay so far. My question is, besides the more expensive stuff at the grow shop, what is everyone's experience with other "name brand" potting/soil mixes available at lowes/home depot/walmart/ etc... I'm looking for the best "cheap" solution. Then again, this schultz stuff seems to be doing ok... I expect to get some crap for this post...let's hear it

Yeah, i can't say MG is pure crap, maybe i just had a bad batch...cause i did use it with OK results for a little while (month or two), but when you get a whole pallet of the stuff and it's turns out to be bad (pH 3.5 - 4.0 and buggy) you get a little mad and discouraged. Once burned, twice shy i do believe that saying goes...:wall: Anyway, looking for input on other soils still

I have two plants of some christmas schwag growing in MG. I flushed the soil with gallons of water BEFORE using it.

SunShine Mix #4 amended with Calcined Clay,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,trust me !!!

I use FF Ocean Forest. Great results so far and people say too many nutes for startin off but I plop the seeds in there right off the bat and no burning as of yet so I would recommend it :)

Scott's Premium Potting Soil available at Home Deopt. It's price is very cheap and it seems to have a consistant and desirable ph out of the bag.

i use scotts miosture control and never had any problem. i hear all kinds of crap for it but when your on a budget and not selling it, just growing for personal use it does me just fine. so everyone whos gonna bash me for it you can go fuck your self. but dude for real tho theres nothing wrong with miosture controls soils just dont over water. ever if you do it wont hurt your plant i always have extra water at the bottom of my pots and my plant is doing just fine

I hate no soil, merely give advice to new growers that tend to overwater (#1 noob mistake)

I am sure that any experienced gardener (and I'm not talking MJ) could grow anything in that soil

and my earlier post about sunshine mix is all about total control

ive never used Mg. I was told its a no-no. I have been proven wrong, time and time again. Its a hot soil, so that needs to be kept in mind. If you u buy a flat of perennials from ur local farm. There already established. I do know. For a 1x investment, u can make ur own soil, time and time, again. A bag of Blood Meal,Bone, dolomite,Epsom,Worm castings, Guano and Azomite cost $45. The soiless u use after is ur choice. Ask ur Dro shop what is a good local, soiless mix. U can make MULTIPLE batches of 'just water' soil grows.
