light cycles matter. Too many hours of sun and it will veg. Too little hours of sun and it will start to bud no matter how old the plant is provided it is female. That's why people go 12/12 from seed. Maybe it might start at 13/11 but 12/12 is the norm.
So I should keep it in dark for longer?

The norm is 12/12. You could veg forever if the plant is healthy but to flower you need a reduced light cycle. Some plants take longer to start budding than others. If it starts showing hairs and not balls you're set

Perfect, it's started to bud. All you can do is give it time now and keep it healthy. 12/12 is a rule of thumb, keep it dark when it should be and blast it with light when it needs.

How is that the norm. Tell me do you even know when it actually hits 12/12 outside? Definitely not the norm. U can't grow in the winter bro.

Alot of strains start flowering at 14hours of light or so outside anyway. I'm guessing either it's not dark enough under the stairs or some days got skipped or something.

12/12 to bud. How many hours of sun is there in winter months?
Outside it usually buds when it gets down to 15 14 hours of light. Clones under 24 hours of light then brought outside can bud sooner then that.. it doesn't actually hit 12/12 outside till Nov or December in California. By that time everything's harvested. Mother nature sets the rules..

Fair enough, we're both right then. Some start sooner than others but a good guideline is 12/12. Op is in Scotland so his light schedule isn't as even as Cali. ;) I did say some may start sooner than others like 13/11 as an example.

Some start later then others but outdoor never ever starts when it's 12 12 it's to cold by then.. marijuana is a seasonal plant it's life cycle is always the same. 12 12 is a fake rule invented for and by indoor growers..u say the norm.. but marijuana doesn't normally grow inside of houses or under artificial light so how does that make sense?

12/12 seems to be optimal for yield and potency, indoors. Usually there is a sacrifice under different conditions. Dark cycle in veg affects the plant as well. 24 hours of light from seed and many plants will try to flower with less than 12 hours of dark. Dynamic interactions between plant and environment.

I see what you're saying and agree completely. I meant the norm as in the general rule new growers use as a rule of thumb.

I know I said "at least 12/12" and that may be able to be extended. For sure.
