will a 1000w hps cover a 3' 1/2 x 7' well?

With your space, I'd recommend two 400w lights rather than a single 1000w light. the reason is while 1000w is recommended for 4x4 (16 sq. feet) it's coverage is mostly square/circular (depending on the reflector) rather than rectangular/oval-shape. I think the length-wise outer parts of your area will not be receiving enough light with a single 1000w.

I agree wholeheartedly, unless the 1k lght is on a mover the plants at either end of your area are not going to get enough light, and most certianly lean trying to get closer to the light.
2 lights or a light mover are the way to go in your situation.

Nope it will not cover a 3 1/2 by 7 area unlesss you have a light rail to move the light.Id go with 2 600 watt lights as 2 400 watters might not give you the same effecs as a 1000 watt light but the 600 watters will

as long as the 1000 watter is on a rail it ll work but by itsself it wont cover that are but 2 600 watters withoput a light rail will

Please, since you are determined to justify buying the 1000 watt light, just buy it and find out for yourself. 14 threads about it is not going to change the facts. Its a 1000watt furnace, a dinosour, a thing of past generations. Why do you think they are available form the same price as 400watt lights. Let's see, 1000watt furnace, air cool tube, vent fans, duct work, light mover, closets getting kinda full. Oh thats right you have a room. You won't have to worry about heating it. VV

in a 10x10 room you could have 4 1000,s,you still need to have a powerful exaust to clean the air so the room you draw the air from dont heat it.alot of people run 4 1000,s and there not useing ac units,heck i know some one that was running 8 and they were not air cooled,depending on were you live it is not that expencive to hook up a room,it may sound complicated but its not air in air out,lotsa lights and feed right.in canada you just shut off the rooms heat during lights on or seperate the room at opposite light times and they heat each other.
