Will a 400w HPS be too big for my grow tent?

My tent is 32 X 32 X63" and I plan on having 4 plants going at once. I am planning on using a carbon filter/fan combo with about 185CMF and passive intake. The HPS bulbs Im looking at come with a cooling tube as well. The tent will exhaust into a large open area and the room tempature will be around 72 degrees.

For this grow area do suggest a 400w HPS or a 250w? Id like to provide as many lumens as possible but am concerned that heat will be an issue and I'll have to downgrade to 250w later. If its absolutely necessary I could upgrade to a more powerful exhaust to pull out the hot air. What do you think?

My first grow was a similar size and I had a 400. I just had 3 small fans and watched the temps and got GREAT results.

Smucker, what did you use to watch the temps? Just the 3 small fans or any type of exhaust? If you used exhaust do you remember the CMF's? Ive read that a exhaust/filter combo will greatly reduce the power of the exhaust since it has to go through the filter first.

i'd go with the 400 and get the higher cfm fan to pull the heat
Definitely! Never sacrifice lumens for anything! You might need a little bigger than 185cfm with a scrubber. But with ozone and ona gel you just might could pull it off. It's probably best in the end to get a better fan though because the cooler you can get that bulb the closer you can move your babies.

I think you guys are probably right, its only an extra $60 or so for the better fan. Might as well shell it out now and avoid upgrade cost later.

the size of the tent doesnt matter. its how low you can keep the temps. get a 250w at least, but i'd go with 400 if you can keep the temps down.

Buzzzz go to www.htpsupply.com i purchased a 400w system from them for $164.99 and its worked great. It comes with both HPS & MH conversion bulbs, Maxwing reflector,
10' ballast cord and a Heavy Duty dual outlet timer. I think there smaller system like the 250w start out around $119.99. Hope this helps you
