I think everyone has different views on this. But, I use HPS for budding and get good results. There is others that use CFL's for flowering and are very pleased with there results. I have seen some dank looking buds come from CFL's. I also think by getting your CFL's in closer to the buds it would have some kind of advantage because you can just about touch the plant with the CFL's. I think either way is good just my 2 cents though.

Are these home depot CFL's or are they hydroponic CFL's? Because it is a big difference. You'll never get rock hard nugs all the way down to the base of the plant like I do with hps, but you can get some medium density nugs, that are still good smoke, and you only spent a few bucks on your electricity bill. I'm a HPS grower, and probably will not ever do any form of fluorescent flowering because I've seen my buddies and I am unimpressed. It is still great smoke, but he always shits bricks when I tell him I had a light harvest at only 2.5 oz per plant. He can barely push 1.5oz on his "finest" grow. It comes out like outdoor that didn't get full light all day, but with a much better color.

Rock hard buds all the way down to the bottom with home depot CFLs:
Had about 8 of these at various stages under 388w and was pulling an oz each off them.
Got pissed at my roommate and threw one of these buds at her and she almost cried. Thought I chucked a quarter (the metal kind). Dense shit.

I was in your same boat when I started my grow, which is my first one. I read about how HPS or HID lights are so much better than CFL. If you are like me and growing for personal use or as a hobby, go with CFL, especially for just one plant, its a good way to learn as you go. I have figured you get what you put into your grow, of course if you have a high watt HPS than its going to be more productive than CFL, but if you have the means for a HPS light then go for it. I can't afford those lights so I used the CFLs I got from my electricity company for free. Not only did I get free lights, but im getting a tax credit for essentially growing marijuana because im being "energy efficient" with the lights that I am using, check out my box grow if you'd like, I am happy with what I've seen so far from my CFL grow. Not to say that in the future if I get the money and means to get an HPS light then I will probably try that out too. Its just personal opinion...imo

Thanks! That is an undocumented seed I got from a local Norcal breeder - he gave me a handful of f1s and most were just amazing. I was going to keep that strain going (super super dense purple nugs with an amazing smell and high gentle high) but some kids broke into my place and stole all my clones of it.
