will significant darkness force budding faster?

im doing research for my college botany class im doing a project on marijuana growth.
Will putting a mj plant in darkness for say 2-3 days force budding? or will it just kill the plant from too much darkness?

Showing sex doesn't change anything. The plant was already a female or male since seed, and just developed enough to show it.

Messing with photoperiods generally stresses the plant, which may influence a female to produce some male parts.

Light in the dark period is worse than dark in the light period.

Well I can tell you right now that you leave the plant in darkness for a few days the plant turns bright bright green where new growth should occur before the plant starts looking like it wants to die.
