wind damage.

i cant help but have my fan close to my girls in my current grow,
and it's not a small fan pretty powerful.

the damage isn't that bad just spots here and there on my fan leaves. i have dropped the time which the fan is running but it's blasting them when it's on!

much to worry about with wind damage?

Maybe put a couple strips of tape on the bottom part of the fan to cut down on the violent buffeting of the plants. But leave the top half of the fan clear to blow away the heat.

I figure if you could buy a smaller fan for your tent you already would have.

but the spots and little rips its making on my leaves can't be doing too much harm can it?

Just get wire up a rheostat to reduce voltage (like a ceiling fan). Go to hardware store (electrical section) to get the stuff. Tell them you want to make a home made rheostat for a power drill. It should end up looking like a box with a rheostat switch connected to an electrical receptical...just like you would have in your you house...except it will have about a 3 foot extension cord coming out of the box....

Plug the extesion cord in the wall...plug your fan into the electical recepticle on your new box...and dial down to the speed you need.

by the looks of the box u wont need it oscilating. cut holes in top to fit base. cut duct tape double it up and find a way toi mout it. duct tape is very stron. i use it mount shit like that. just need to mount it tight

Some fan is good on the plant to keep the air fresh, keep the heat away and even strengthen the branches. But too much blasting is going to cause unneeded damage to the plant. Ive had seedlings that didn't blow over from the fan, then one day, for whatever reason, ended up getting knocked over.

I just think the thrashing around of the plant is just unnecessary stress. Your plants are still relatively young. Its not like you have 6 foot trees that could care less how much fan is blowing on them.

Don't forget that everytime the plant is damaged in any way, it has to reassign resources and energy to repair the damage. Like I said, a bit of damage from fan is good to strengthen up the stems, but I think too much can become a nuisance.

i'm keeping on with this fan, where it is. i just need to know what the result can be of wind damage. if it gets worse of course.

ok man yah i brought the time down on the fan now anyways will only run it for a few hours a day see if it makes a difference

the 2 plants at the front of the tent are the same age at just over 3 weeks old and the bush at the back has just been given to me at 8 weeks old and she hasnt had a fan on her at any point in her life my mate told me.

Maybe tilt the fan all the way up ( i know it only tilts up so much) to blow toward the light and move the heat away from the plant. Do you have a thermometer in the tent?

I'm just worried about high temps if you plan on only running your fan for 2 or 3 hours. The plant needs fresh, circulated air always.

taping the bottom half of the fan off now, the temps are always cool at 22 degrees tops, bit hotter could even be better. only on 250w MH at the mo, 400w HPS will be on after another 2 weeks.

its blowing between the tops of the plants and the light now so with the tape over half i'm thinking the battering will be less on my girls.

Good. I was going to suggest again putting a strip of duck tape on the bottom part of the fan to cut down on some of the violent blasting of the plant.

I remember one time I only had 1 fan that was too strong for the young plants and I had to stack up a couple books in front of the bottom portion of the fan to block some of the wind. Then, of course, once the plants were big enough I removed the books because the plants were big enough and hardy enough to not be bothered by the fan.

exactly, thats what i will be doing once my 2 youngens catch up to my topped bush and then bang em into flower!

plants are in ideal heath right now and want to keep it going!
