Anyone else keeping up with the protests in Madison, Wisconsin? Any Wisconsinites on here? What do you all think? Do you support the people or the governor of Wisconsin? This also happening in Ohio and Florida.

What are your thoughts on this latest development?

scott walker is trying to grab power, thats all. i thought these republicans wanted less government. but what they meant was they wanted to concentrate power in a few government positions. if i didnt have to work and lived 3 hrs away i'd be out there with them, too bad we dont have high speed rail....thanks again to scott walker......

What he is doing is destroying the unions before the elections for 2012. It's a concerted effort among Republican legislators. This is happening all over the country. Unions are the largest contributor for Democratic campaigns. If they cripple the unions they cripple the campaign funding of their opponents. It's a very nasty political ploy that has nothing to do with fiscal responsibility or lowering the deficit in Wisconsin. According to reports the governor is inflating the numbers to support his political sabotage. The state isn't as bad off as he is stating.

The truly shocking part of this is his refusal to meet with the people of the state. He will not compromise, negotiate or even discuss the issue. WITH THE VERY PEOPLE THAT VOTED HIM INTO OFFICE. It's insane. I'm for the people on this one.

btw though, most of the unions opposed walker actually, they didnt vote for him. only a few of the unions backed him out of the many.

It seems to be more about another bankrupt state and the teachers union holding it hostage.......... it's either reduce some benefits and make teachers pay some of their insurance/retirement or layoff 6200 teachers- sounds like a win/win to me!

this about their right to negotiate, not wether or not they will pay more into their pension and healthcare itself. they want to negotiate.......

Yes, because teachers get so much. You need to look at Wisconsin history to know what's going on here. This isn't about the budget or teachers demanding anything. They are just fighting to keep what little they have.

what really scares me is that 90% of the people i talk to around here believe that its about the defecit and the unions are making unreasonable requests and want outrageous terms when its really about the right to negotiate those things. it also stuns me people are saying federal/government jobs are bad and should all be cut, i mean yeah, thats how to fix job losses here....... give the private sector all our money/jobs so they can ship the jobs overseas, good idea.

with education, like with most other things in life, what you put in effects what you get out.

you want to treat our teachers like walmart employees and take away their collective bargaining rights, expect to get walmart quality students.

you want to treat our teachers like the college-educated professionals they are, expect a better chance at getting professional, college quality students.

trying to balance a budget on the backs of educators and the students they teach is short-sighted at best, downright stupid at worst.

as much as i dislike ed schulz, i give him props for running this story like he is doing.

its not just teachers, its all public employees besides the 3 or so that supported walkers campaign(who have now turned on him even though they are still keeping their collective bargaining rights, serves you right scott walker.) it seems pretty corrupt people who support/supported walker get all these benefits.......I signed a few impeachment petitions myself, doubt it will do any good sadly....

This poll is flawed. It is not a governor versus the people issue. It is a governor versus public sector unions.

The people spoke in the November elections. The Legislators are doing what they were elected to do; except for the Democratic Senators hiding like spoiled children, in Illinois.

This has nothing to do with the quality of education, or else teachers would not have pulled a 'sick-out' forcing schools to close.

This is about greedy union thugs trying to bully politicians. This is a union temper tantrum.

The policy changes will reduce the state budget, but employees would still have better pay and benefits than the average private sector worker.

If the legislation fails to pass 6,000 public employees will be laid off.

if 'the people spoke' to strip teachers of their collective bargaining rights, then they also spoke to strip themselves of certain freedoms.

remember, they also voted out the only man to vote against the patriot act, johnny.

watch out how you apply those false blanket statements.

i hate it when people try to say "the people spoke" and we all believe the republicans are on the right track, because its not true. They were elected because they said it would all be about jobs....they just didnt say they want to destroy them, not create them. Btw, where are all these job bills they said were priority #1......they couldnt keep their promise even a week, it makes me sad that the republican party i loved and was proud of being a member has died these last 10 years.

No that is not what I mean. That is what YOU mean. The people spoke. They sent Legislators to Madison by way of a legal election. The process worked as it should.

But the election results stand. If the people don't approve they will have an opportunity to remedy the situation in the next election.

The poll options suggested the unions represent the people when the opposite is true. I support the people of Wisconsin, but I do not support unions; especially public sector employee unions. Unions represent their members; the hell with the people.

What is asinine is to assert that I stated that the American people all agree on any issue. I never said that and I challenge you to prove otherwise.

Your interpretation aside, it is still a true statement.

Just as this alteration to your statement is true.

If 'the people spoke' to ask public employees to make the same sacrifices they themselves are making, then they also spoke to rid their state of the man who co-authored a bill to curtail free speech.

I am for me and my family, I vote repub. just to keep a little money in MY pocket and not to help the lazy and the unemployed by choice.
