Work qualifications... are you serious?

Asked my manager today if it was true that our hours were cut because of someone working an unscheduled shift.

Her response, "It's none of your business, people need to quit spreading rumors [Insert lie here]"

I can't wait to quit this job.

I found out even if not fully qualified you might still get the job. I have gotten a couple of jobs just walking into a place.

Be prepared with a stack of resumes and walk in ask to talk to the manager.

I have gotten hired at places not hiring.

In this day in age you can't be too good for any job. Lots of peeps are in need. If you're looking for a job, you're no better than anybody else looking for a job. Don't look down on possibilities. Good, hard work is still the backbone of this country- you can't get something for nothing and if you are going to bust your ass you can do anything and you'll go far.

I'm sick of bums who don't do shit and act like it's someone else's fault when they don't get promotions or raises. If you want to make money, you work your fucking ass off. End of story.

I actually just got a 20 cent raise, that makes a total of 42 cents in my 9 months of working there plus a promotion in my first few months.

Shame that I can't keep putting up with their bullshit otherwise there'd be some decent opportunities for advancement.

If you dont mind doing physical work & working outdoors look up local union contractors on the internet & visit them in person , most large union construction companies are allways looking to take on new hands with starting pay packages around $20 an hour , when i retired 5 yrs ago we were paying helpers allmost $18 an hour plus insurance for starting pay , then a $1 an hour raise if they lasted 30 days , then put them thru trade school & give them a $1 an hour raise every 6 months till they graduated trade school & become journeyman , pay for journeymen in the trades ranges from $20 an hour as high as $80 an hour depending on the trade , all contractors like to hire in person & avoid phone & internet applications .

You can make a good living & need nothing more than a drivers liscense, dependable car & a strong back .
I've been tossing around the idea of applying for the electrical union but I'm worried about doing physical work down here in hot ass Houston. The other problem is the drug tests, I think they may even do hair tests. My buddy is in the plumbers union and they do hair tests on their apprentices.

I've found out 90% of CL work ads are just recruiters/employment agencies. I don't like the fact the actually going into a place of business asking abuot work is frowned upon at a lot of companies, i was told at 2 different places they WON'T take walk in job applications or discuss whether they even are or are not hiring.

Learn to weld you'll always be able to get a job

Now its hard work and in the summer you will be covered head to toe in sweat

But oh my god if it isn't fun when I ran my first bead I was hooked

Plus welding gets u 16 to 20 bucks an hour starting pay
I understand there is quit a shortage of skilled trade workers throughout the country. However, we have a surplus of college educated slackers, so they end up asking us "Do you want fries with that?"

Times sure are different today, or maybe cause I am older the places just don't call you back.
What about the jobs you know you are perfect for but they don't see it that way.
And I made $10/hr back in 1980, 35 years later $10/hr ... WTF.
What do you do?

Wait til you find another one first. It's much easier to get a job when you already have one.

I remember when there was no internets and no craigslist. WE had to actually get all dressed up and drive from place to place and getting writers cramp from filling out so many apps

Yeah, and now they bitch about 100's of job opportunities on the fucking screen right in front of them because of "requirements."

McDonalds takes people who don't want to work but want a paycheck, regularly.

Brother in law has been out of work for almost 2 fucking years. Oh he says he fills out hundreds of apps, but the dude does it in his fucking underwear at home, and then sits and waits for the phone to ring, even on the shit retail jobs. Kept telling him to get in these people's face and show ambition, not to beg but to almost annoy by being so ambitious, even for some shitty job.

I proved my point last year when I walked into a hardware store with my bother in law and I basically refused to leave until I had a job offer, said I was gonna show him why internet applications are fail. 10 minutes of asserting my abilities and continually asking for the boss and I had myself the store owner talking with me by that point, and the guy was willing to work with me as he did have an opening. I stopped the party, handed the reigns to my brother in law and said he needed the job more than I did, and I walked out to the car. Fucking pussy was right behind me, and had turned the opportunity down the moment I walked out the doorn because he wasn't gonna work at a place that didn't fall into some category of his supposed expertise. 4 year communications degree and he thinks he is worth something, whatever Mr Unemployed.

What pisses me off most, is he was mad that I would try to get him a job for, as he said, garbage pay at a garbage store, but I wont hire him at my shop and pay him the bucks he needs to take care of my sister. I said I had no need for a communications major in my shop, and then it got dead quiet when I told him if he didn't get his shit straight, he wouldn't be needing to worry about how to take care of my sister anymore cause she's about to leave his ass. That was a long 25 miles of not a word spoken on the way home, for him anyway, I was high and having a great day. Fuckin loser.

My irish charm has gotten me many jobs in my time. And my irish temper has gotten me fired just as much.

Wouldn't a brighter economic future be worth staying "clean" for a few months? I've failed drug tests and still gotten the job, but my skill set is in high demand.
