If you are looking for worms the red wigglers and european night crawlers are the best compost worms to use. Reds for the upper portion of the bin and the europeans for the lower layer of soil. Any worms you purchase will also contain mites. I found mites and a few fungus gnats a few days after adding them to the bin. Just an fyi. (not same type of mite that attacks plants, there the good guys, decomposers)
Here is supposedly one of the better places to get the number of worms you are promised in the advertising.

You'll want a paper shredder (strips type) and a food processor/ blender. Freeze the scraps also for 3 days to kill the larva of fungus gnats and other unfriendlies. takes 3-5 months for the first bin to be done.
I sprayed a little bit of vermi tea with kelp in the bin for moisture, microbes and bacteria fungus to get things going and use an aquarium pump for additional air into the bin. Go light on the amount of food in the beginning. Everyone always over feeds the bin the first few times they set up and feed. Go light and add more as the bin matures. Hope that helps.
