Wrapping the Top of the Pot with Aluminum Foil?

Do you think its ok to wrap the top of my 7 gallon pots with aluminum foil to prevent over watering from the rain? I am worried about both the oxygen for the roots and the heat that will be generated from covering the pots with the aluminum foil. Or does anyone have a solution from preventing outdoor pots from receiving to much water from the rain?

It sounds like that would work. Maybe clear plastic wrap or a strofoam plate if your pot is small enough.
