Anyone Make Charas?

I happened to catch one episode of strain hunters and saw them making Charas, I realize that there are newer ways to make hash but is this a spiritual meditation like exercise or how do you go about it? Has anyone done this? Does the flavor come out!

are you talking about when they rub down buds prior to harvest and collect resin from hands by rubbing together?? I think I may have seen that episode... if so ive tried it but with gloves instead of the dirty way they did it, bare hands after hiking up a mountain, that way has too have dirt in it.

Ok i wasnt sure what they called it, amazing high with that stuff, very uplifting,
Pretty much like scissor hash after trimming
wish I had a mountain full of sativa like they did lol

Charas is the first concentrate ever made, Charas made where the strain hunters where is considered the best in the world for good reason. I spent 8 seasons there, priceless memories

Ive been to the villages they feature in strainhunters. Kasol and malana are full of backpackers these days but not so long ago theybwere well off the beaten path. Charas is actually made in several regions in the himalayas but malana amd kasol are well known because of the tourism and "brand"

According to the locals there, the technique is to strip the fresh plant of fan leaves leaving mainly buds then they rollthe colas back and forth between their palms ( usually around sunrise where the best yields occur) there is an inverse correlation between pressure amd quality. The very best creams are said to take a whole day just to make ine tolah (10g). More commercial but still excellent charas can be produced at upto 3-4 tolahs per day. Poorer quality can be yielded at 6-8 tolahs per day.

Some makers choose to do a first run of cream and then subsequent rubs of rapidly degrading quality.

The charas gets better as you go higher in altitude until about 10000 ft. After that its usually too cold.

Sorry to answer your original question like others have said unless youve got fields of ganja thats not smokable, it aint worth the effort for the yield. The cannabis that grows in charas producing regions tend to be more sativa dominant but very low in potency if smoked as buds. Not to mention the seeds..sooo many. There people dont pull all the males cuz they need their seeds for the next season. In the past couple years foreigners have started to slowly introduce better genetics but with all the cross pollination its difficult to avoid contamination by wild landraces and other crops. Some people think they sell the post rubbed buds as ganja on the streets but thats not usually the case. A different variety more indica dominant from Afghanistan is used and grown further south at much lower altitudes. Some famous varieties such as kerela gold are grown in highly local areas. Sometimes these farmers try to practice culling males but you still end up with a couple seeds per nug but nowherennear as bad as the charas plants. Still the nugs always look like mids cuz they dont practice proper curing and usually press bricks to make for easier transport

Do you not realize that introducing genetics in the potential birth place of cannabis is criminal. "Contaminated by landrace", this one is brilliant, truly a gem.
The famous Kerala variety come from Southern India, nothing to do with the Himalayas.

Also the potency of the flowers is the potency of the trichomes which if you think about it is the potency of the Charas.

When the resin adheres to smooth glass, and not to the palms, it is easier to assemble and charas is a much cleaner.

But it was a toy experiment, consider it by the method is not serious.

I hate to jump into a charas pro talk, but have you ever encountered people in your travels with severe allergy to mmj that also had an antidote? Im hoping you've seen an indian bush remedy i could run through my tropical plants database. I always dreamed of going to india and showing the Sadhu's who's the real naked aesthetic firelung, but I can't event make charas! never mind dry sift. All contact with the plant results in painfull itchy welts anywhere i touch. My lips grapefruit if a ity bitty crumb get's on my lips from a loose filter. I wear a full face sealing organic vapour filter mask just to handle the buds from bag to tube, it's no life at all.

Any suggestion would be great, hopefully that pink lotion made of oatmeal for itching children is not your answer.

If a person has that reaction to dry sift ...and not the hash oil you also make...I was told it was calcium oxalate crystals/raphides I think is the name in reference to plant crystals.. I believe that's the cause of the burn when munching on mj plant matter (if you like to suck on your yummy stems you may/will feel a reaction)

Very interesting technique to collect resin from fresh buds MIG. It does not look as efficient as hand rubbing but I will have to try before judging. Thanks for sharing

I am just going by my personal experience and what rhe locals tell me. Yeah the ganja they grow in the south is still grown in higher altitudes. For example Kerala gold as you mentioned is grown closer to Munar- altitude almost 2800 meters. Not as high as the Himalayas, but ive nver seen weed growing past 10, 000 ft

The local bud I get here in pune is grown in ths nashik region which is famous for being one of the few regions in india producing decent wine domestically. It is also hilly terrain.

As far as introducing artificially selected hybrids contaminating their native birthplace...thats a whole nother argument. Its going to happen eventually whether people like it or not. The farmers who make very little money from their risky operations are not going to give a flying fuck about preserving wild traits. They are going to realize eventually that indias gigantic growing middle-class is demanding better quality product. Besides how do you think hemp got to be? Its techinally the same species as ganja but has little to no thc. This is what happens when u let weed grow wild..it tends to lose potency with each generation.

Like I said I am reporting first hand experiences with local producers. I have travelled all over the country and know what is available where and for how much. I dont have any "data" per say from research articles so take what I say with a grain of salt.
