SEED STAND-OFF, Durban (Sensi Seed Bank) v Durban (Dutch Passion),

If you haven't already read this article, I strongly advise that you do.
Durban Poison seeds are bought from two popular Dutch seed banks.
They are then germinated, propagated, veg and bud grown, under identical systems (lights, nutes, temps, RH....)
and, just in case there was bias from the grower (subconscious or otherwise) the seeds were handed over without details concerning their origin.
SEEDS A and SEEDS B were the limits of the growers knowledge.

To find out more about the actual GROW OFF you'll have to read it (link above)
my post isn't specifically about the experiment.
It's about the best environment to create (and keep) a honest and reliable seed bank?

From the article it seems clear that even the most established seed banks (one may describe certain banks as VENERATED) are less deserving of our trust than many would assume.
And 'assuming trustworthiness' isn't the mindset of a sucker!

When a 'business' has been a part of something from the very beginning, when the names of the people (who started it) are legendary, when that 'business' has survived (and thrived) for 35 years in the grey area of legality and governmental acceptance - one does assume that maintaining their reputation (in a business sector where reputation is everything) would be everything
One would assumethat the promises they made would be kept.
One would assumethat a label was accurate.
That, if the label stated that the packet contained DURBAN POISON SEEDS, that the SEEDS would be DURBAN POISON.
And that promises of expertly bred seeds that guaranteed a genetic consistency and uniformity of strain, would be reliable.

There are SO MANY variables when growing plants that growers are willing to pay LOTS of money for seeds which have had a FEW of those variables reduced.
STABLE GENETICS is how this concept is usually labelled and BREEDERS/SEED BANKs are paid handsomely for the promise of STABLE GENETICS - when they have a reputation for TRUSTWORTHINESS and their PROMISES are accepted

Cool article, but everything is opinion and is heavily influenced by a lot of external factors -- especially suseptable are magazines with sponsers that pay for said magazine. I guess I just mean that when tests aren't perfectly scientific it becomes hard to eliminate bias. Kinda strange that there's only one picture and its of the bud that "wins", still a fun read tho.

i haven't gotten around to perusing the article, yet, but just thought that i'd say that i've heard from more then one person that sensi's gear has really not been up to par compared to what it was back in the day when they were leaders in the industry..

I still have a 10 pack of Durban Poison from Dutch Passion. I never grew them as I knew alot of growers who did which was about 10 or so years ago and all had crappy outcomes. Lot of hermies, poor yeild and just all around poor quality to the product.

I am willing to bet 50 bucks that Dutch Passion had heavy involvement in that 2009 experiment.

Sensi's quality control really took a hit once they started farming their seed production to breeders in Spain several years back.

I've grown out Dutch Passion genetics, and I couldn't agree more, hermies and spindly plants galore!
I will never touch their gear again.
