Tutorial to Growing with Cfl's

why thank you DR chronic! :) helpful!

this is going to be my first time growing indoors...im not sure if its any different from outdoor..such as pesticides, bugs and such.

got 2 question though....

does the plant need wind directions? to avoid dust and mold.etc?
does cfl make your soil dry (normally from outside)?

the plant(s) doesn't care which direction the wind is blowing as long as there is some airflow.i have 2 fans pointed away from the plants but the air bounces off the walls.
Buy an air purifier or use a filter on your intake airflow....lol...i use a simple 16x24 air filter over my intake air flow
you'll only have mold with high humidity, heat, lotsa a plants crammed in a small space, too much watering
hmmmm?..."do cfl make your soil dry?"....no more than normal!:)
what did you see from recent youtubers??

as stated already 85º to be the hottest, but i have three plants that don't like it below the 80º to 85º mark, and really like it between the 85º to 90º mark. when it got so cold the other day i had a hard time keeping the temps up. was running between the 50º and 60º mark, three did ok, and three hated it.

At what temperature should any room be? Or what temperature can a plant hang?

Nice.

Hey what are those T5 lights? I went to the store the other day and some product had this T5 symbol bold. Did I miss something?

there are two types of t5's, one is the spiral type 55 watt e26 base, then you have t5 and t5 ho tubes. the t5 ho tubes seem to be great lights, and if i had it all to do over again it would be the t5 ho's. i can tell you that the 55 watt t5's run pretty warm/hot.

I'm going to be doing a stealth Rubbermaid growbox. So for just a small 50 galleon growbox with 2 plants how many CFL's do you guys recommend ? I'm also planning on putting a fluorescent light bar on each side for side lighting.

Start with 6...I say that because you can find those 3 bulb vanity fixtures(lowes,hd,walmart, ace, sears)add splitters, splice it to an extension cord and it's done.It should fit perfectly in those 45-50g plastic containers.IF YOU CAN KEEP TEMPS BELOW 85f YOU CAN USE AS MANY BULBS AS YOU WANT;)...I recommend the 23-26w cfl variety:)

You can also use an inexpensive power strip instead of the vanity fixture.

Yes.....BUT you will also need at least three plug/bulb adapters($1/ea)and splitters($2/ea).

The 3 bulb fixture is about $10,$15 for a 4 bulber. The cheaper six outlet power strips are $8.

I've seen both ways being used and the vanity fixtures are a cleaner look.:cool:peace

T5HOs are the most efficient type of fluorescent lights producing 94 lumens per watt.they are a linear tube type light that uses a separate ballast but run cooler than cfls.they can be placed 1 inch above the plants and distributes light more evenly than cfls and have twice the useful life.commonly people use 6500k for veg and 3000k for flower but you can also get full spectrum P&A bulbs that produce a slightly higher yield. they cost a little more than a CFL DIY but the longer life and lower electricity cost offsets that.the best place to find a good price on a fixture is e-bay.I paid $89 for a 6 tube 2 ft fixture that puts out 12000 lumens and uses 144 watts.they are a little more expensive than CFLS but IMHO they a worth the price. with good P&A bulbe they will outperform small HPS lamps (grams per what) .you can find a lot more information here https://www.rollitup.org/t/led-without-leds-my-first-t5-grow.358190/
