True or False?

In the book Marijuana grow basics (by Jorge Cervantes) it says that "Seedlings that receive 16 hours of light and 8 hours of darkness tend to grow more female plants."

And they say more acidic soil = more females, cooler temp = females, etc. etc. etc. The only way to guarantee females = female seeds.

This is not proven by any means as far as I've ever read on it..
It sounds good, but lots of things sound good that end up be a steaming pile of poo..

I once did a test at 16, 20 and 24 hours and it made no difference whatever in my mind.....maybe if you grow out 100 plants under each regimen, you may notice something.

When he says "More females...."
How many more does he mean?

Does lower temps give you 55 females out of 100 seeds
Warmer temps get you 54....?

And even feminised seeds only increase the chances - they're no guarantee.
(even females can turn hermy and spoil your god damn day!).

I have a ~94% female ratio Consistently
I put 16 in flower every month/ 4 every week...most times 4 come back.
Environmental factors directly control sex and this is widely known..they do not have typical xy markers..the environment has a direct effect on hormones which determine the sex around the second week and 5th node or so... We cannot control the environment enough (yet) to have all females..but I'm quite proud of my ratios
Heat humidity then nutes are the most important factors, in that order
My ratios will be cut to bout 80% just by having temps bout 75......so to germ effectively I keep temps about 80. Once they pop the surface I take it down to high 60's low 70's for 2-3 weeks. This marker has been observed by myself and others as when sexing takes hold in the plant and it will take on a lanky male appearance
I realize this sounds kinda superstitious like harvesting on full moon or some shit..but I promise this has been observed by many growers and even scientifically its been shown..again they do not have a typical sex determination system you are used to seeing. They are not predetermined from seed
"Cannabis has been described as having one of the most complicated mechanisms of sex determination among the dioecious plants."

With that said I veg 24/0 and just throw into 12/12..I don't believe given everything else is on point, that lighting is a significant factor in sexing.. but I have noticed a higher female count with plants receiving less light, specifically the intensity of light/saturation and not necessarily the time received

Is be interested to the know his reasoning. For example did he perform a genetic test on the seed prior to germination to see if it was possible to prove that it wasn't already a female? Withouht that howcould he not prove its not simply coincidence if the end result of his experiments simply appeared to prove the hypothesis.

I recall those pictures that went around of how to determine sex by the seeds look. Uhhuh.

I have good ratios of female to male...simply by judging how round the crater is in the seed....but I'm probably just lucky.

Many talk ...but very few peeps understand botanical copulation, like humans, most of sex is done in 20 minutes max, then and their your sex is done at the chromosome level

Absolutley beautiful information man!!!!!

Cant stress this shit enough.

Mr. Cervantes is full of shit. And that right there is proof. 18/6 would give you about 50% chance of female. To be honest, I find using a taper schedule with my lights to help. Im sure we got our info at the same place which is why this excited me so. Like stated, weeks 3-5 are crucial in veg. Its during this time that I try to lower rh, drop temps a little and one of the things that also helps is a shorter daylight schedule.

Taper schedule
Sprout thru Week 1: 24/0
Week 1 thru 2: 20/4
Week 3: 18/6
Week 4: 13/11
Week 5: 11/13

None of this matters if you buy feminized seeds. So I'm thinking sex is determined by the seed, tho environment can cause hermaphrodites.

If it's true or not, I don't know.

But it has long been known what increase your odds for females, when planting regular seeds (myth or not):

* Dark periods (not 24 hour veg), which is where your 18/6 "fact/myth" comes from.
* Nitrogen rich soil for early veg
* Blue light
* Some temperature range , which I don't remember

There are more of these "myths". I might believe environment influcenes has somewhat of an effect (if given reason to), but so far I doubt it.
