Nice jobby frieddy!! looks good, i have fruited well over 50+ jars about 3yrs ago. did about 4 diff strains, and things turned out great. do not dry them out in a oven or microwave. either air dry them or build a rack w/ desiccant on the bottom. the smaller the mushies usually the more potent at least before the open their veil and drop spores.

WOW,i just read through your whole postings.

I'm jelious, you have done way good and i'll be back every day looking for more pics : )

After it col. in the jar what do you do then? Just take it out and put it in valcumite?

Well, normally you build something that hold humidity, the vermiculite helps hold it, but the kit i bough comes with a humidity bag, so yeah, i just pop it in there and they start to pin.

Peace out x

Cheerse chap. I was looking when to harvest, a lot of people say different things. I think i will harvest them just after they open. I will be bagging them and keeping them in the fridge, I'm saving them for a camp out if a few weeks!

Peace out x

Give it time my friend it will all pay off in the end

And ya i kno that drying them using heat affects the potency. I only dry the ones I give to my boys because they dont like them fresh but they do like munching them the day they are harvested. If that makes sense?

some of those are ready to fruit now, don't let them go to long. one looked shrunken, getting dry. don't let them go to long.

Well, its fruiting time. They looked ready and taking nashbar's advice it is fruiting. I took it out of the pot, the smell of mushrooms floods the air. Its not sitting in water, will leave it in there for 6 hours then put it in the fruiting chamber (a plastic bag thing that came with he kit). Gonna get some more Vermiculite and get the cycle going again.

I wish there was a place to buy those cool 1/2 pint jars here in the UK, i have to wait for me to finish the Chocolate spread and re-sue the jars before i can do anything!!!

Anyway, here are some pics, will take some more when they are in the fruiting chamber.

Peace out x

now u can just make the rice/virmic mix and just break off a peice of mucelium and put it in the medium to start over, u should just gea a huge garbage bar full of rice flower and vermic and make a huge cake to grow like 1lb the best way is to grow the huge cake in a laundry basket, the kind with holes on the sides so the shrooms grow out all sides, just have it in a clear trash bag to keep in moisture, look online how to make a medium with straw and manure, it grows caps the size of baseballs which u wont get with those small cakes. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

you might be able to wash and re-use those plastic containers.

for jars, check out the grocery store or whatever big super-store. try to find canning jars, wide mouth so you can get the substrate out.

tyvec as a filter and a little silicone sealant as an innoculation point.

pint and quart jars

Yeah, i will re-use the container. Getting jars isn't a problem, i just re-use food jars. Here in the UK we don't quite have the selection you do.

Peace out x

looks good, i'd give that 90+% chance of fruiting.

make sure there's a big enough air space. mushrooms need oxygen (fresh air exchange) and room to grow.

i am about ready to fruit some of my jars. 4 to be exact.

and from the research i have seen, it seems better to let them fruit for a bit in the jar before birthing them.

i also have been told this from a guy at work who came from the west coast.

he grew them and said he did the same thing, just let them grow out of the jars,

there seems to be this understanding of better and more fruiting if left in the jars for 1-2 weeks after the mycelium completes the jar. i have 4 jars that are complete and were so on saturday or so.

i am waiting atleast until this friday or saturday to consider birthing.

oh, for those following mine are CAMBODIAN strain.

i've had some fruit in jars, the mushrooms don't grow right and the yield is poor. it's been a while since i've done cakes though. it might work out for you. fresh air exchange is really important.

try everything and find out what works for you and your setup, you won't want to stop growing once you've got a system down. i use quart sized jars of whole grains (rye and millet) and make casings with 50/50 cococoir/vermiculite in aluminum baking pans. average ~1.5oz per quart jar.

this is my current grow, looks to be a good harvest. the strain is of my own making, i made spore syringes from caps from a few different strains (B+, KSSS, Z and GT). it's ~10 generations old now.

nice looking trays.

i am thinking of doing this with one of my jars.

is that how you get yours started?

so the cococoir is a non nutrient grow medium used in conjunction with the perlite for moisture retention?

will this allow me to grow more by breaking up the jar?

you use the rice and millet as the food for your mycelium and case it with the coco/perlite?

sorry for all the questions,

after you try casing/bulk, you might never fruit a cake again.

there's a good grain write up on the web, can never find it, so save stuff to your computer when you find what you like. "grains for the simple minded", something like that. 50lb bags of rye (berries/seed, NOT RYE GRASS) and millet are available at animal feed stores and home brew stores which charge 3 times more for it.

use vermiculite and cococoir for casings. use perlite and aquarium air pumps with bubbler stones to maintain humidity and air exchange. use a clear plastic tub as the fruiting chamber. works well with a little cloning container and light bulb.

cococoir is a coconut husk byproduct. it's sold at pet stores for reptile bedding material. it's cheap. it's organic with nitrogen so the mycellium grows into it well and it holds a lot of air and water. cococoir is easier to work with than horse manure, but not as nutrious for the shrooms.

mix cococoir equal parts with vermiculite. pack it into pint canning jars and pressure cook for 45min. ready to go whenever need.

spray everything down with a hydrogen peroxide/water solution. mix 1 quart jar of mycellium/grains with 1/2 pint jar in aluminum baking tray. break it all up, mix well. spray a few times with peroxide/water solution. cover trays with plastic wrap (saran wrap stuff), store in DARK fruiting chamber. after 4-5 days, remove plastic wrap and start a 12 hours on/12 off lighting cycle. spray again with peroxide/water solution and wait.

sorry for the broken english, i'm drunk and high and my hands don't want to type.

i'll post some pictures.

It looks great, Its started to pin. I'm misting it with a small spray bottle and changing the air twice a day. One of the other jars is almost ready to fruit as well. Might make some spore sprints when they are ready.

Peace out x
