can't see the picture but 5 would be OK I think. As long as the canopy is kept under control and they don't get too large. how big is the space. I wouldn't use a 400 on anything larger than 8 square feet

Of the 2, the 400w or the 600w, the best is the 600w HPS without doubt, but if you got expensive power bills or a vent system not up to speed then the 400w is a good second,
aim for 9 plants in 3 gallon pots to 3 feet high in 3.5-4 months, the light foot print is 1 square yard or meter, use the digital light to take advantage of the dual Mh/HPS and the dimmer control ...lol

Ok,ive got a 600 but its costing more $ than I thought it would to run.
Ive just remembered what I really wanted to ask-how important is complete darkness during flowering? For want of a better phrase, can you get away with a very very small amount of light?

Complete darkness is very important. If you are talking about the light from a light strip switch or other very dim light it shouldn't be a problem. If you are talking about light leaking through a crack in a closet door etc it could easily become a problem especially if there are lights on consistently outside the closet. How much light are you talking about, what are the circumstances around the light leak? I also can't see the pic, try posting it again if you can.

you can grow one plant or four under your light, it just depends on how you prune them to fit the space. as fas as light the rule of thumb is not more than the light cast by a full moon.

What kind of ballast do you have? I run 600W HPS with two fans running 24/7 and my bill went up about $20 a month. I have a digital Phantom.

Nice to hear I have a 600 Watt Digital Apollo Horticulture MH (55,000 Lumens) HPS (95,000 Lumens). Can't wait to put it to the test for the first time. Hope all goes well with your grow and plant, but I can't see the picture...

Ok,heres the picture again2014-01-13 16.37.30.jpgany idea whats up?
As far as the light leak, its just the light from outside youd get in any city at night, coming in a crack in the window where its open.Ive covered most of it with masking tape but obviously I need to let air in and some light still comes through the tape. Its only for a week until I get a proper air system set up in my proper grow room, but till then Im having to grow in my bathroom with the window open:sad:I tried in my grow room but the temps were in the high 90s and the ends of the leaves went thin and wispy,so the bathroom it is.Im just having to make the best of the situation.Peace and love brothers and sisters

Are you flowering the plant or just vegging it? Light leaks are not nearly the problem in veg they are in flower. It sounds like the amount of light coming in that crack is not going to be a problem. Especially if it is just for a week. Good Luck

hahaha..:leaf: I got a tent off eBay for $80 free shipping. Really need two tents, one for vegging and one for flowering to keep the ball rolling.
