i have a big array of herbs under T5s; imo they are the only thing really worth growing indoors

You can grow anything indoors, but I'd concur: Annuals that can be picked any time win if I'm picking plants for a limited indoor space, herbs are indeed the number one choice far as I can see: they're annual, bushy, space-saving, and freah herbs are much better than the dried shit in supermarkets.

I have Basils, Parsley, Lemon Thyme, Sage and Firecracker Chillies in my yard, but I would still grow them even if I had to grow em inside. Once you've tasted home-grown you become a bit of a snob about grocery produce.

I planted a snickers bar in 50% soil/50% perlite but my dog dug it up and ate it.
Later that week I saw my dog burying a bone in the back garden
so I made him watch as I dug it up and ate it.

It gave me stomach ache.

A few weeks ago I planted a selection of 'miniature heroes'.
Dairy Milks, Galaxy's, Boosts.....
I haven't been to check them because I know the dog is waiting and watching....
Just biding his time to take his revenge for the bone....

He started it by digging up my snickers but will he just call it equal and leave well alone....?
No - He's always sniffing around, searching for stuff to steal.

any chance of a community garden nearby? growing indoors is nice but it doesn't come close to having a garden to putter in and be with other gardeners.

you know.. now that you tell me .. Since im a little kid around my neighborhood ive seen about 2-3 spots where its allllllll gardeners on free land.. I never thought it was land they might have bought or rented to grow in... How do you think I get involved besides asking them? Show up at city hall ??

Just rock-up and ask if there are any community gardens, if this is one, and whether there's any plots available. ;)

If you get a yes to any of those questions, ask how tou can start. If it's "no" to all three, call him a pig-fucker and go ;)

Their are several churches/temples or whatever by me that have them , Almost no one ever uses them thow, some even have beutifull premade raisedbeds with pre-worked soil already in them .

Al you have to do is ask (at the church by me) and they will give you some room

A nice space saveing idea for indoors

the plots or spaces in community gardens tend to be leased out in winter so if you wait till spring it may or may not be too late. if you want to get involved now call your county agricultural extension service and they may be able to put you in touch with the right person. they are usually staffed by gardeners who love to help other gardeners.

I'm a utilitarian, with the understanding that if we don't take care of our environment as we exploit it currently, we won't be able to utilize it in the future.

It's like with archaeology, the tools of 100 years ago were so primitive, that the experts of that period look like tomb raiders today and in another 100 years, today's archaeologists will look like tomb raiders to future folks.

it is why I started that minimalist thread a couple weeks ago.... We really need to be considerate of what we do today, and how that will effect tomorrow. We can never recover the time we lost being inconsiderate now, only to realize it later, when it's to late. A bit off the deep end..... Sorry... I just woke up and hit the bong while I plot out my new hydroponic veggie garden lit with a 400w hps/mh.......

i am am going to experiment with all sorts of stuff, also, get some peppers and tomatoes pre-started for spring... Even going to try planting a corn seed see what happens. I've never grown veggies and herbs indoors so..

Ben, j. Madison here and I totally agree with your emphasis on consideration.
im also starting chilies and tomatoes indoors with several types of herbs. Not too worried about herbs indoors, I've grown me in windows and under lights but I've only ever pre-started tomatoes and chillies. Since I'm doing 5 varieties if each I'm going to pick one tomato and one chili pepper to complete inside. Would love to start an indoor chili thread in here if you'd want to have a place to discuss, but over at gardenweb there's a ton of chatter and there are some pepper only dedicated fora too. Let me know what you think and I'll proceed.
just started the overnight soak for my chilis: Fresno, pasilla bajio, charleston, mulato isleno, and golden cayenne. They should be sprouting in about 4wks.
be easy,

Damn guys:) Thanks a lot for all this help !!!!!!! I'l be subbed to your threads!!
I've never planted anything else besides cannabis and I'm very interested in gardening.. Benfranklin I totally agree with you.. So many humans have become ultimately distracted that they no longer grow their own foods.. we depend on others to make it for us lol.. Fuck ->Monsanto. I'm going to grow my own stuff as soon as I got the proper experience/knowledge.. plus my grandparents were farmers/gardeners when they were younger:) I;m really excited to get started!

I have grown an outdoor garden for the last 3 years and this is my 1st winter growing indoors.

I managed a Cali Wonder Pepper and mainly herbs in the Lamacieae family.

I have this graphic from somewhere that shows the amount of seed species we typically breed for commercial food sales, compared from ten years ago to the early 1900's. Something like a 70% reduction in diversity from then till today's age.

That's what Monsanto also does, creates a bottleneck of diversity. They offer less for the utilization of all [sarcasm], unfortunately it is the closest thing to a Malthus collapse as humans have ever created, if they are human, Monsanto that is. El Diablo del verde
