Hi All, just wanted to hear opinions on how much you think a 250w cfl costs to run 20/4 per month.... Hopefully people from the UK will contribute to this thread. If you have any sort of way to calculate this please share it as it will be much appreciated

It should be correct because I did some calculations about 3+ weeks ago and as far as I can remember it was about £30 extra a month

My 400w setup that consists of
400w hps
221w dehumidifier
80w tubular heater
15w oscillating fan
50w inline fan

Costs me around £45 a month to run.

That's about $70 a month for a 400 setup.

The UK energy companies really screw us over for electricity prices.

With more price increases on the way along with power outages due to closures of power stations etc its going to be tough on this little island for a while.

Then there's the whole fracking thing too to contend with.

I'm wondering if any UK growers are worried about raising suspicion by consuming too much electricity. How much would be too much for a terraced house or detached one? Do energy companies even care at all?

The average before suspicion is aroused is generally over 1kwh used per hour per bedroom.

This is the approx info that electricity companies use.

For example.
1 bedroom place = 24kwh over a 24hour period
2 bedroom place = 48kwh over a 24hour period.

You get the idea.

What actually worries me slightly is the introduction of smart meters. Hopefully we'll be able to decline having one fitted. Otherwise it will tell elec companies etc what times devices are being switched on and how much draw they put on the system etc.

Does that mean you can run a 1000w light per bedroom before arousing suspicion?Gone are the days of a wire in your meter eh lol

Where I'm at we already got smart meters... The bullshit part of that is, it happened when I was out of state and they billed me 1k cause they said I was using power when I wasn't.. No way to get around it cause they said the computer showed it... Bullshit.. Anyways I paid it. But if I go on my electric company's website.. It shows how much I use per day... One of the reasons why I got my light on at night so I don't get one huge spike in cost

fir3dragon, my m8 used 2 run 2400w through 4, 600w hps lamps. the electric company kept sending him letters telling him they will force entry to put a new smart meter in if he keeps failing to respond to the letters. he has now got the smart meter in and he now needs to find a way around it? has any1 got around this yet?

You might tell him to look into LED lights. I think that's the future on the near horizon. They'll keep getting cheaper and better.
