Any help is appreciated

I ordered alakazam, big bud x white widow, and blue mystic off herbies (all feminised). It also came with a few free seeds. I have a light thingy (idk what to call it) that my friend gave me a few years back with a blacklight. I took out the blacklight and put in a regular 40 Watt t12 tube. I know that that's not nearly enough to grow in my closet. So I got as many 23 Watt bulbs I could find. Long post short: How should I set it up and pretty much any advice you can give me is much appreciated. I'm tired of BS dealers who are inconsistent and just straight up dicks. Plz help guys!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a bunch of 23 watt bulbs aren't going to do much, at least I dont think. If you're trying to get around buying an actual horticulture light, then I'd suggest you go to Home Depot and buy a HPS flood light and get some cardboard or something, paint it FLAT white (not gloss) and use it to hold the light (actual rays of light not the physical light set up) in a small space... maybe 2x3x4', and make sure you have lots of fans. my buddy took his flood light apart, folded some simple sheet metal to make a new hood... kind of pyramid shape, cut a 4" hole on each end to run a 4" hose out of it to a blower sucking the heat out into the attic, it worked surprisingly well. He also put a pane of glass under the hood to keep the heat in the light, which the blower immediately pulled out of the light. fresh air coming in the the other hole.

my advice though is just invest in a real light. i know they are pricey but think of all the money you'll save not having to buy bud. it WILL pay for itself in one grow.

With proper venting, depending on the size of your grow space even a small HPS can cause heat issues. However, again depending on the size of grow area a small HPS can be used in addition with CFLs for supplemental side lighting. That being said there are many great CFL grows on hear. Due to space limitations and inspired by this forum i decided to build a cabinet. I have one plant under 8 CFL bulbs (23w-27w) totaling 188w. Your grow space will determine your lighting setup but if you plan on growing any more than 2-3 plants you should consider HID or LED lighting. Here is mine at 4 weeks.

CFL's can work for you, if you know how to work them.

Thanks for the reply guys. BTW my ventilation is good, I have the attic opening above my closet. All I'm really stressed about is the light situation. And I literally have no money. Guess I'll plant the free seeds first and see what happens.

Well if you are on a tight budget then for sure go with CFL. Try to pick up a 4-pack of 23w-6500k. That will get you through the first couple weeks. Add more when you can until you feel you have enough. I started with two bulbs and i now have eight. Decent results so far I think. Good luck with whatever you decide.
