Low yield_newbie_please help

On my 3rd grow. Using soil, seeds, and 400 watt HPS light. Plants are always tall, healthy and look really good, problem is I don't get much off of them.

From what I read most people are getting 100-400 grams from a 400 watt HPS. I'm getting nowhere near that I'm sure I haven't even hit 100 grams on a single grow yet.

Any ideas where I could be going wrong? My guess is my room in the basement (old concrete block) is kind of cold. I will test that theory later this summer when the basement gets hot and humid. But until then, any ideas on the low yields?

Put up a pic of your current plant / grow

Do you have any photos of your setup?

It will give more information, also you should provide as much details as you have.

Strains, your fertilizing schedule, what you use etc. more more more info..

you don't want tall plants with a 400w try lst and keep an even canopy and get the light within 6 -10 inches or something

there are a lot of factors, as I get it. You know - water ph, salts build up, too much nute, not enough nutes, pests(i think), low light, wrong light spectrum, ventilation etc. etc. But mostly I'd go ahead and guess - it must be at least a couple of things.

How long are you vegging? Are you waiting for plant maturity or harvesting early? How many plants? I think you are misattributing as to the cause.

Ok thanks. I think that may be part of the problem. I understand now that indoors that having tall plants isn't really beneficial? as the light doesn't penetrate down far enough is that right?? I may flower earlier next time. I doubt this totally solves my problem though...

I think a lot with yield has to do with genetics..

if you grow bag seeds.. That's why.. I get low yield with them too...

if not.. What strain?

How big an area does your 400w cover?
About 8 to 10 sq feet would be optimal - 3 x 3ft (ish)
that's 40 to 50w per each square feet.

Good point. I am using bag seeds and i do notice some do better than others. I usually try to save seeds from from my best buds but have a mixed collection.

I figured i would use my bagseeds until i learn more...

4 plants. Not harvesting early. If anything im late. I wait for trichomes but they never seem to turn amber for me like others get.
