Heres an example of sativa's stretching. A while back a friend of mine had a few extra clones from an almost pure sativa strain (cant remember the exact strain) that he needed to get rid of. I am more of an indica guy but didnt want to see them go to waste as he was considering just tossing them. So i got the clones home and after a day or so 2 of 3 werent looking too great, Since I already had some plants growing I decided to toss the 2 sickly ones. My other plants were a few weeks ahead of the clone and much larger so i threw the clone in the best possible spot with hopes it would catch up in size. By day 7 the clone had gone from 6" to around 24" tall, By day 14 almost 5 Feet! Come the third week the once puny sativa clone was literally touching the ceiling, I had to decide if I should top the plant to stop vertical growth or attempt to bend the stalk. Ultimately I decided to attempt to bend the plant into a giant arch in order to make more space for vertical growth, 1 more week of veg remaining. By the end of week 4 (other plants were around week six of veg) the sativa had put on close to another 2 Feet! Ultimately the damn thing would have ended up being around 10 FEET straightened out! The mostly indica strains that were vegging for roughly 2 weeks longer only reached around 48" tall. The difference between the indica and sativa strains was unbelievably obvious when comparing this 10' bean pole to the short bushy indica's.
