i found this on a philosophy forum
and wanted to hear riu's thoughts.Your emotions have the ability to distort your perception of time. If you have been through a lot in life, then you have probably been emotionally out of control, or at-least more emotional than someone who hasn't been through as much. So since you have spent more of your time in an emotional state of mind than others, then wouldn't you think your perception of time has been distorted at a greater intensity and duration than their's?? Assuming this is true, then it is possible for you to have lived a longer life than someone who is your same exact physical body's age. Remember, YOU are not YOUR physical body.
This makes me re-think "respect your elders". It is no longer a surprise to me why I've always felt more inclined to respect someone for what they've been through rather than for their physical age. Because in reality, a 20 year old who has been through and conquered more in life, is actually older than a 40 year old.
