Question about Durban Poison

Being a newbie I'm a bit confused.

I understand the sativa strains give more of a psychoactive effect . Also it is my understanding that a higher THC percentage is the major contributor to said effect. I know other cannabinoids are involved but thought THC was major player for up type high.

i have been reading about Durban. However I read that it has a THC content of only 8.6%. For comparison Barney's Acupulco Gold has 23% THC.

Further reading indicated that THC below 12-15% has little psychoactive effect.

If the above is true why do so many say Durban gives a phenomenal psychic high?

I think it's the ratio of THC to CBD and CBG that matters the most. One teaspoon of sugar on a strawberry is sweeter than two teaspoons on a lemon.

The most cerebral strain I've ever smoked was Highland Thai(Juicy Fruit Thai). I liked it so much, that I looked it up and found an interview with DJ Short where he claims the strain is unique to cannabis in that it has no ceiling. He said he once did an experiment to see how far he could take it, but by the 20th hit he'd lost cognitive function and was no longer able to hold the bong.

I miss the like button,I'm sure the ratio is what makes a difference like legalize said, CBG is just new to me.I would have thought dursban had a higher thc count. To me sativas are a lot different to grow, seem to be more sensitive,I have to pay more attention.

If it's real DP , then it will be a head high with licorice taste, getting harder to find the real thing anymore though

It's only Dutch Passion's Durban Poison that say their Durban Poison is at 8.6 %

What you have to remember too is that Durban Poison is a THC-V containing strain when grown in the right climate. So a 1:1 ratio of THC:THC-V would give close to 18% total cannabinoids. As mentioned previously cannabinoid profile is much more important than just total THC. 12-15% THC is probably medium-strong by today's standards so I'm not sure who's telling you otherwise. You can have a whole joint @ 12% or half a joint @ 24% and you would be getting the same amount of THC but depending on the cannabinoid profiles differing effects.

Hope this clears things up.

Btw: I'm gonna go DP for my next grow too ;)

barney also claimed some unreal thc content on their pineapple chunk also claimed it to be more indica it smoked ok & definatly was sativa dominant so i no longer trust barney or any other of the other like top rank amsterdam cup holders i trust tried & true people here that try something & give an honest report of their experience with a breeder/strain

I have to ask, who's Durabn Poison will you run? I'd always heard mixed things about dutch passion. It was one of my favorite strains with that ridiculous licorice/ exotic spice/hash taste and cerebreal mind sharpening effect.

I don't have access to clones so I will be doing the Dutch Passion DP regular seeds. I know they don't get a lot of respect here but I tried their orange bud a few seasons back and it was nice enough to give them another try. I chose Dutch Passion over Sensi because of this comparison:

I'm not really after massive yields or super-dank though. So as long as it's a healthy plant with enjoyable smoke, 70% germ rate and no herm's I'll be more than happy :)
