3 x 5ft is a nice size for grow closet.
9 Indica Dom plants, under a 600w or 1000w lamp....
That's what I do with a 4 x 4ft space
which is just a tiny bit bigger.

your 3 x 5.5 so 16.5 sq ft. if you are not gonna LST/Super crop/ just top/fim then i would do 16 max but since it sounds like you are new i would suggest doing 4 first. so you can learn them let them grow so you can top then clone them or just take them all the way. if you start with 16 make sure they are same strain. and dont ever feed. have a good ph/tds tester. if you are trying to grow big plants long flower then do 8. but really learn the strain first with like 4 if they are fem seed. if normal seeds start with 8 a few males will be in there.

Yeah,
15 plants in a 15sq ft space will be tight.
Personally I wouldn't exceed 9.
There's 9 in my 16sq ft tent and it's a close set up.

More plants does not mean more bud. You have an area that can easily be filled and produce as much bud regardless if you have 9 plants or 18 plants. It is how you grow and train them that will dictate. I have a closet 2x4x8 and I have done 6,4 and now down to (2) and produce similar yields. More plants = more work = more problems...
