Exactly. Can you make money growing saffron and orchids? Yes and matter as a matter of fact, you have until april 11 to apply for state grants for specialty block crops and they're awarding 10-75k. Can people make money as a NPO? of course, they draw salaries to operate the business. Should someone be in "caregiving" for financial gain? Until they pass dispensary laws I think a lot of people will say no. This makes it difficult in my opinion to do anything like that legally and thats just the way they want it, until they find a way to tuck it in their pockets. Moral of the rant: nothing ventured; nothing gained
 
Don't forget the only way to make a real profit is to break the law in our fine state. that is unless you have 5 extremely rich and naive patients ready to pay for and smoke LOTS of your herbs for WAY too much per gram. otherwise you're selling outside the law limitations.
 
As if none of us are familiar with breaking the law... even following our law is still breaking federal. Same goes for ordering beans, buying anything from a dispensery, going to places like 3M, all of which isn't technically legal, it's locally tolerated at best. Shit more than half of us have been in the game long before medical came into effect, breaking the law is just what we've had to do.
 
YEAP!!!! fucking lawyers and doctors are the only ones without the risk and gaining all the $$$$. as with everything in this world: make the laws or interpret them. Otherwise the pricks doing those two things will find a way you're breaking them and fuck you over for it.
 
what you said I don't have much money to invest ..................... there is a problem there. the start up to be a successful care give minus fees just for equipment is . 1000 co2 unit burner and control . 250 each light a good hps bulb combs so 8 lights 2k all ducting work. 200 dollars. veg light . cheap 200 dollars. 1000 dollars in fees to be legal . ac unit a mini split 1500 dollars or window ac units 2 of them 500 dollars . 1000 dollars in fees to be legal. if your smart you will use 600 instead of 1k bulbs less heat saves major electric . your first electric bill is 500 to 700 a month. ok 6 plants per light x8 min pull is 1 zip a plant . for 4 harvests a year the low side very low side of every thing . total min profit should be double if you know what your doing or triple. would be about 30k minus expenses on the low side . so profit from 0 to 200000 a year average around here is about 30 to 100000 a year profit . so is it worth it ? keep in mind this would be your full time job.
 
Even if you don't go all out like the above you can make extra scratch. Just doing a small perpetual in a closet can net me $250 on an off month to over $600 and that's after keeping for me and covering expenses minus labor (which isn't much). And all capita expenses are already paid for (equipment)

then again this isn't my job, it's my hobby and provides me with my smoke. Got bigger dreams than growing plants.

My small clientele is all I need, I.e. friends and family

My thoughts are most people can benefit from cannabis. I use it to help manage pain, but shit this whole medical is above recreational usage is bullshit. Most of us know that.

Yea helping people is nice but you can bet dollars to donuts these "caregivers" love getting $200- 300 an ounce. Anyone growing knows it doesn't cost thay much at all per ounce. If all these compassionate caregivers are so compassionate, the price of an ounce would be far lower. So let's not bullshit ourselves.

If I'm making RSO for a cancer patient (for free), and giving away free meds to other patients in dire need, and then turn around and charge someone $200 for an ounce that can afford it ..... then what am I profiting in the whole scheme of things? I'm barely offsetting my costs. Not sure who you're rolling with, but some of us are actually trying to help people. If you don't want to help others, that's cool. That's your business ...... but don't come on here saying that's bullshit just because that's not your experince with things.
 
I'm not saying don't help people, I'm glad you do, many don't. But I've got an illness too, and your philosophy is to have others subsidized, that's your business. Mines always been to be fair. Different strokes and all that. I don't have any patients at this time, but I've given out and will in the future the fruits from my harvest.

I've been to enough "clubs", even helped form one which was nothing but a greed factory of which I'm glad I discontinued my associations with those folks. I've joined enough places before I started growing for when my caregiver was out. I saw the prices, shit I paid them. Literally joined a handful of these places, prices were pretty much the same, it's market driven and you know that.

Once one starts growing you realize how much the markup is. To act as if there isn't money and everyone's doing it for "compassion" again is full of shit. There is an economic incentive. I know the price of an ounce grown in my closet, it ain't $200, and neither is anyone selling it at that rate (myself included).

Of course people are making money off of this and marking up the prices 1000%. That will always exist. It's America.

Personally I would encourage everyone to try to help people out though. Some of us are in a financial position to do so, and others rely on the money they make from this to keep food on the table. Every situation is different. I have much less of a problem with an individual making some coin doing this than I do some corporation taking over and monopolizing the market. That's worst case scenario, and that's the direction that this is headed ...... just like everything else in this country. Greed trumps peoples well being.
 
And you're damn right I discriminate with my meds. If you're rolling around in a Lexus making 6 figures a year, you will pay for bud. If you have cancer and have been financially ruined by the pathetic excuse of a health care system in this country, then you won't pay a dime for whatever I bring to you.

If that makes me a dickhead for doing so, then I will wear that label proudly. st0wthedickhead.
 
The definition of CARE GIVER should deter profits. For fucks sake. If you break even awesome. If you want to make money just stop hiding behind caregiving.

yea not lexus driving here. full time wage slave and student. My starving days will soon be over.

Nonetheless, if it wasn't for doing what I've had to do pre med days i couldn't afford medicine and I don't see you kind people at these places just rolling out affordable meds. Having 1.5-2 gram a day usage means I couldn't afford those prices. I use to buy in bulk and be a middle man. That was the only way until I started growing I could have quality meds. Having a dependable small clientele allowed me not only to get meds essentially for free, minus having to spend so much fuckin time on the regular on the hunt, but to save for my grow setup. The whole white knight image is bullshit.
