My £30 Homemade SCroG Screen

I ventured down to DIY super store not that long ago to invest in my own Scrog for my jump into hydro growing.

I am aware things could of been upgraded but i like to start off at level 1 an build upwards with my ideas !

I wasnt thinking about this guide to how i setup my own ScroG for my hydro jump so i didnt prepair any pictures of each stage so i hope the steps are clear enough to help any curious newbies who might find this of any use. However i have included a picture of the final look while its inside sitting on top of my wilma big 4 system inside my tent to give you an idea of what it will look like in hope to give a visal idea.

what i bought was
Wire mesh
to many bambo canes
2 packs of twisty ties
And a Tool kit since some Asshole nicked my last one.

Step 1 get 5 bamboo canes trying to get them all even in length helps.

step 2. roll out 7-8 foot of wire mesh, fold at 3-4 foot to double it over like your folding a piece of paper. use the edges of the mesh to clamp each side of that length of mesh together.

step 3. repeat step 2 If your using a big 4 wilma system this is needed unless you get the right mesured wire mesh in width and lenth which i didnt do.Hence why i had to double step 2but i have fun as i like getting hands on with stuff.

Step 4. connect both 4 foot doubled wire meshes to gether to ensure they cover the full area inside you Gtent. And dont forget to take into cncideration, that you may need to pull the scrog in an out of the Gtent otherwise your half screwed!

step 5. begin threading a piece of bambo cane threw the wired mesh on the outside of each edge to form a square! Obviously that will use up 4 of the cames. The 5th cane can be used to thread threw the center of the ScroG mesh to ensure it cant be forcefully pushed up by the plants as they grow up.

You can use a 6th to build a cross on the inside of the mesh to toughen up your Scrog in the center as some wire mesh is not the worlds toughest but ive found using 1 cane threw the center works fine. and it supports the wire to make it more even and not droopy in the center of the mesh.

Step 6. when you have moved the Scrog into your Gtent, use the twisty ties to attach the to each corner of your Gtents poles at the height you have choosen to allow it to work for when you grow out your plants.

I cant really deny them twisty ties are a godsend, when it comes to home made designs for Scrog if you dont have access to wood since they can be untied an adjusted without any hassle for anyone wishing to raise of lower there SCRoG during the grows early stages.

If all mesurements are right an you can easily life the SCrog an move it into an out of yourGtent without it interfearing with the wilma system or the lighting above it. then There you have it.

Its not the very best homemade SCroG setup on earth, im aware of that but for the job in hand im confident it will cover my leap into SCroG experince as a beginners stage!

A ScroG home made for about £30 and have left overs to allow you to make another Scrog at a future date!

And this is a picture giving you a visal image of what it looks like as im still doing final testing before i finally get my first hydro grow started.

P.S I will say if you wanted to raise/Lower the ScroG during the later stages of the grow, it might become a problem since the bigger the lants get the ticker there stems will be. And the only way to remove it froma round the plants., would involve wire cutters to cut it out from around the playts since wilma big 4 plants in there 18 Litre pots will produce pretty big plants if all goes well.

Cheers for the feedback ETH

The pots with the wilma big 4 system are 18 litres which i think work out as 3 gallon pots.

While i was making them it occured i do tend to think alittle outside the box when i do stuff. Oddly i have quite a few relatives who are in or retired from the creative world from famous potters to small by nature but huge thinjking mirage painters. so i guess its in the overseas gene pool lol

I was thinking of strings at first but i bought it all online an to collect instore an they ddint have any string online which seemed odd but i got what they offered.. but future modifications can be made. so strings optional.

Having used wire and string I must say string is better by FAR. Also you could have used some 1x2's and had them cut to size at the hardware store. Would have been overall cheaper, but for a first go that isn't too bad.

2 lengths of 2x2,
2 lengths of 2x1,
8 screws,
1 ball of string,
about 100 staples.

Supported on the frame of an old 1x1 grow tent I happen to have. Could use legs, but i had the frame.

Will attach mesh around the sides to add vertical scrog if the canopy overfills the screen on the horizontal plane.

Think I may have it set too low, but I'm impatient to start training!

Sorry dude but you kind of dicked it up a little. Don't get discouraged or hate on me, but those holes are waaaaaay to small to manage easily. The will be bud shredders come harvest time.

I have down many a many a many a scrog, like 12k scrog rooms.

The best scrog screen is the following:

Roll of fencing with 2" x 3" holes. Home Depot sells it.
Couple sticks of 1/2" metal conduit for plumbing.
Coupes 1/2" conduit connectors.

Bend conduit into shape of square or rectangle. When you need more, couple another stick to it. Use coupler to close. Put a single stick across the middle of the screen (to prevent collapsing when you tighten the fence on there.

Cut the fence TWO rows bigger than the screen. Fold the excesse UNDER on each side, pull tight, attach with zip ties

Now hang it from the ceiling from four ropes. Fix the rope to the ceiling and tie a clove hitch around the conduit frame.

Light, cheap, sturdy, easily adjustable, just the right hole size

:)

Sorry for the newbie question, but what is the point of "scrog" Someone please explain? Is it necessary to do this with one or two plants?

instead of growing a tree type plant like many cannabis plants grow as upwards.

SCROG allows you to grow your plants more evenly to give ALL bug sites a more even growing field. so they all get the same level of lighting insdead of you having tons of good grown bud up top closer to the main cola an a bazillion popcorn bug below. an at the bottom of the plants near the soil!

Sorry dude. Saw chicken wire and thought..oh shit. This guy is going to learn the hard way. Hardware cloth or fencing with rectangular holes is still easier to work with..it's welded not wound. You can cut it and easily fix it without creating needle like wire ends

chicken wire is smaller gauge too, tends to cut into stems with very little pressure. ps. i bet i could count on my 2 hands the amount of people here that know how to tie a clove hitch...lol...as easy as it is.

Yup thats a fun one to use. pisses some off when they aint got a clue what its called. as they cant google it to understand how itss done. but its strong an tough.

youd need to cut the netting into biger holes as not all netting has 2-3 inch gabs. i did browse a few different places before finally buying it. but post up a link when you do set it up an im always happy to check out others ideas. including them who have a ton more posts than me as it means you been more active on RIU.

Orange fencing causes shade...just saying.

The advantage of the fencing or hardware cloth is that it's thick enough that if you need to cut and bend it you can bend it back for the next round and it will not need tying or whatever.

Scrog takes awhile to master but when you do, you can get some BANGER yields. I just pulled a pound off of each 600. Maybe a little but more, haven't weighed everything yet but it's defiantly at least 12
