Pass this test, earn free secondary education

This is a hypothetical question, I'm just curious what RIU thinks

Basically, the proposition is, if you can pass an advanced academic test, according to your region, you are awarded advanced education for free. This ensures gifted people are given the chance to advance, regardless of their economic class

I see no reasonable argument against something like this and am completely open to hearing any opposition, if you can come up with any..

The only problem is that it makes sense, friend...that'll never do for all of the little college kids, whos' parents are payin for that shiny piece of paper that says you know what you're doing. I Kind've feel like a hypocrit but hey, the US government paid for my education haha...if you're a sharp guy, then you're a sharp guy and if you believe that with confidence, the ones who matter: notice. Good topic haha

This is a vague question, and therefore irrefutable on those grounds. Care to elaborate on the subjects included on these tests?

How about the SAT or ACT tests? Score in the top 10% (or 5%, or 1%) and you get a college education courtesy of the tax payer.

I like the idea but it would never fly with the progressive types in the simple form stated above.

How is it fair for the top 1% of intellects to get a free collage education, just because they received a genetic gift from their obscenely intelligent parents, doesn't mean they should possess and hoard all the intellect, let's overthrow the intellectual elite. Let's Occupy Harvard!!!!

Yeah, showing favoritism on a select group of people and offering them a free ride isn't going to cause any problems.

Lending people money to pursue their "education" in fields that nobody wants, needs, or employs, hasn't worked out too well for us as it is, and I don't believe that's going to change if the ca$h is "free".

Pad what about the funding? Can it be lottery? If so I'm down.

My only opposition would be the funding.
But even then I am conflicted.
Half of me wants to support and vote for the most wasteful spending ever just the get this shit over with.
Other half wants to conserve it all and reign it in.

You don't agree that genetics are the reason one person gets ahead and another fails, and agree with Buck who thinks IQ is a social construct based on stigmas placed on certain individuals? While to some degree that's true, based on experiments like the once where blue eyed and brown eyed people are told their eye color alone makes them special, when done to school children, will affect their performance. But, no amount of praise, flattery, or favoritism will overcome your maximum genetic potential.

It's like with cannabis. Certain strains are more potent in certain desired chemicals we like. Before that potential is maxed takes the perfect environment. That doesn't mean genetics are useless, though.

There are brilliant people among all races, who've come from all backgrounds. Even among whites, if you come from a rich family you're more likely to become rich too, look at Steve Jobs and Bill Gates.

Geniuses and retards come in all races. Is Neil Tyson an Uncle Tom because he says successful people in life create their own motivation?

But if you fuck up after getting a worthless loaned degree, your life is ruined to the point you can never pay back what nobody wanted. With a "free" education, all you do is end up a failure of your own choices. Paying back a useless college loan you never use amounts to living in a mortgaged house you can't even live in.

Scholarships have been awarded for years.

In school or on the streets.
Gifted people retain information and pass tests on a daily basis.
They tend to win at life.

I've been driving for over 25 years. I have never received a ticket or caused an accident. I'm in the top 1% of drivers.

I want a free Corvette.

There is no such thing as "free" unless the people that are paying for it are doing it on a voluntary basis. Forced transfers of wealth are simply dividing the spoils of a theft.

Also the education model used today is very archaic. The internet can and should replace the 19th century brick and mortar Prussian school model, imho. You might find by googling John Taylor Gatto you learn about the ravages of the public "free" school system. Peace.
