Plowing snow used to be considered a fairly safe occupation:
"In the nations northeast, which has been hammered all winter long, plow drivers are being threatened. Several drivers report being shot at, assaulted with shovels, and generally disliked by the masses. One driver in Connecticut walked off the job, saying it wasnt worth the risk."

We had a front-end loader doing a church parking lot at 4 AM last Sunday morning...which pissed me off along with the entire block.
They didn't need to be doing that in a residential area, and the privately contracted commercial company was ticketed by the city.
But attacking public works employees doing the streets is a bit much....WTF.
