General COB or Bridgelux Vero 18 cooling

I can tell you from personal experience those damned Intel fans are very noisy at 12V. If you drive them at 6 or 7V you'd probably be OK. How would you attach the COB's?

Those heatsinks should be more than enough for the Vero 18. I agree with the fan noise may be high at 12v. A potentiometer or a 5-6v power supply should reduce the noise while still providing adequate airflow.

bicit, do you have any of those? I'd be very curious about the outer dimensions of the flat area at the base. I bought a few of those Ideal COB holders but they're too big for the heat-tube style heatsinks I've got layin' around. To install them properly you need a flat surface that's larger than the holder.

The CXA30 COB holder is roughly 2.4 inches (62mm) corner to corner, and about 2 inches (51mm) across the narrower cross-section. In other words, it's 2.4 inches across the longest axis, where those white plastic arms are located, and about 2 inches across the narrowest axis.

The plan (which can always change) is to have the COBs mounted to a board, and mount the heatsink and fan to the board. Thermal compound in between.

I ordered 8 of them. I'm impatient like that. :) I couldn't pass them up for $5.25 each including shipping. Unless the noise is extreme, it shouldn't be a huge concern.

I will let you know what I find out, as I plan to test whenever my drivers show up.

ETA: I should not have asked the question when my intention was to order them anyway. Poor forum etiquette on my part.
