First ever seedling. What's my status?

So. I've already had my little experiences this far lol, but I just wanted to see what you guys think of my setup.

This is Aurora Indica, Using FF light warrior with a little added mycorhizae near the bottom of the cup.

I started with a regular 60W light bulb for added heat and to pull the bitch out of the ground.
Unfortunately, what appeared to be the first sight of a sprout was actually the ROOT! I took care to study how to insert the seed after germination but somehow it still ended up totally upside down. I carefully dug it up with tweezers, flipped it around, and this is what it looked like:


After a day or two, it straightened up and started to look pretty healthy, but one of the cotyledons hasn't leveled out yet. Should I be worried about anything?

It looks stuck to the stem, you may be able to break it lose, if not don’t worry about it.

oh yes, you ought to be very worried, as this is the single worst disaster that any grower could possibly encounter, as the mutated cotyledon is a clear sign of a pestilent plague that will soon invade your entire home.

It's definitely not stuck. That was my first thought too. there is the slightest little separation between the leaf and the stem so it's not leaning on/stuck to it (although that's the way it appears)

Another note, I kept the light 2-3 feet away at the beginning stages because I didn't have a CFL and I didn't want to burn the seedling. I would assume that's why it's "reaching"

It would be advisable to cover the sides of your little pot with duct tape or something to keep the light out.
Roots wont grow into light.GL.

Transplant when you can to a solid color cup or tape it, or paint it, don't use clear solo cups.

Light to the roots stresses and confuses the plant, which produces hormones partially according to how light hits it.
Algae also needs light, and is likely to grow in your soil if the container is clear.

So what wrong with seedling mix and using a 4 inch pot for a 2-3 weeks ...some growers just wing it .....lol !

Judging by the looks of it you appear to have a plant forming.

Looks good keep up the care. Don't worry and over complicated and she will do fine.

Robro, you gave good advice but for the wrong reason. You dont use clear so mold doesnt grow. Roots grow in it just fine.

Hey guys, so the cotyledon did fine and straightened out.

Almost one week since it sprouted out of the soil, it looks like this:



I'm sure you can notice there's something strange going on with one of the two fan leaves.
Any idea what that is?
It almost just looks mutated or melted or something.

Edit: the leaf I'm talking about is on the bottom in the first pic and the top in the second (brighter) picture. I rotated the cup between pictures and didn't want to confuse anyone.

Early leaves are often weird. Wait til the second or third set. If those are funky then there's a problem.

There seems to be a slight yellowing starting at the tip of one of the first fan leaves, and the leaves just look weird and unhealthy to me...
Any idea what this is due to? pH? light? nutrient burn? pythrium wilt? Or am I just crazy and it looks fine?

For the millionth time...fox farms is a hot mix. It's good for ur plant when they have established root systems but not for seedlings. Your plant is showing symptoms of burn. So either dig it up and replant or wait it out. Next time, when u germinate seeds use a STERILE mix.

I understand that you're very concerned for your youngster. Just go in there and spend some time talking very nicely to it. Don't sit in front of it and worry. You'll give the poor thing a complex. Take care of the basics, ask questions, don't let anything get too far out of whack, and don't beat yourself up worrying about the first two leaves. If the plant is happy it'll make more leaves in a couple of days and then those first two won't matter so much.

Do you have plans for adding more illumination soon? Something that throws more light and less heat? You don't want to run a standard incandescent bulb too close to a fragile young plant. Too much heat.

Roughly when would you consider it safe to use Fox Farms? We went from peat starter pellets to FFOF. From what you're saying that was a mistake. I guess I missed that millionth warning...

i have some about the same age maybe 4 or 5 more days and i saw the same thing ! i did some reading and i found out that because it's the first true leafs they start to form in the seed! so my question to you is, was that the plant with the stuck cotyledons cause that is all it is nothing to worry about a little misshapen that's all mine looked similar and the next set was fine ! just my opinion I'm very new and i'm sure better qualified people might have a better answer

not sure what fox farms ph is but as a seedling 6.0 -6.5 i use miracle grow potting mix it's 6.5 -7.0 but you have to make sure your perlite is free on nutes......and yes i always here stay away from mg products but i have no nute burn and im almost 10 days sense it broke the soil and she is on her third set of true leafs fyi im using 60w cfl per plant then im going to add 300w hps when thet can take it!!! any suggestions please let me know ....friend me cause ill need all the help i can get lol good luck eveyone

Maybe it doesn't show well in the pics, but the "yellowing" looks pretty mild. The soil looks soaked. How often do you water?

I can't say with absolute certainty I think somewhere around four weeks would be a safe bet. I don't use FF although it's a nice mix. I prefer to mix my own. But I do note the huge amount of threads where growers display burned young plants from FF and so I try to disuade them from using it too early. Especially in the seedling stage.

MG Organic is a nice mix to use from start to finish. I've used it and I liked it a lot. There are MG products with slow release fertilizer in it that MJ growers shouldn't use because it invariably burns and the grower has no control over when the pellets dump their load.

I water once every 2-3 days depending on topsoil dryness. I'm pretty sure i've been doing okay in terms of water quantity and frequency, but pH could be an issue since I don't measure it. A lot of you guys keep says "FF" or fox farms but not specifying a specific type. I read often that FFOF can be too hot, but read that light warrior should be fine. So when I see some of you guys saying "FF is too hot", I don't know which type you're talking about or if you even know there's a difference between the two....

Anyways, if the soils too hot, will she eventually get used to the natural nutrients as she gets bigger? I'm not adding anything (as in added nutrients) and I don't really feel like transplanting is necessary, so just wait it out? am I right?
