Decarboxylate kief?... Why and how?

Hey RIU,

My apologies if this topic has been covered already. I've searched the forum and read parts of some lengthy posts but I'm not sure I'm understanding.

I can pack a bowl with fresh kief from aged buds and catch a nice buzz. However it seems after reading some of the posts in the forum, I'm missing out if the kief hasn't been decarboxylized? What am I missing out on?

As I understand, decarboxylization turns THCA into THC. However, so does burning it in a bowl or vaporizing it. So theoretically, simply smoking the loose kief seems to have the same affect as decarboxylization. Am I missing something here? The one advantage of decarbing I've read about is that it'll preserve it longer.

Also, how do I decarb a small amount, say 4 grams? Can I just spread it out in a small pyrex dish and bake it in the oven at 220° f for 20 minutes? What happens to it when you heat it up? Does it liquify or solidify? Does it turn into an oil or wax? How do you smoke it afterwards? Same a smoking it in a bowl I presume.

Can ya help a brother out?

So in theory, you wouldn't need to decarb reclaim correct?
Reclaim was 100% decarboxylated when it was vaporized the first time. Carboxylic acids are highly unstable and once heated to the point of vaporization, instantly liberate the carboxyl group.
