Is finshaggy the same guy that we all made fun of for having the "pool cue" plant that was on stacks and stacks of books on a stool to reach a cfl bulb in the ceiling? The one always trying new "experiments" with light cycles and he said that SOAP helped plants grow?! Anyone remember that guy? We all got warned for calling him a dumbshit so many times we started the RIU pirate ship thread? Anyone?

I think it must be him.

I was wondering if you could point me to where I can find studies on uv-b increasing thcv production.....or at least a theory on how that would be possible

I'm just gonna put this here...hopefully you catch, and don't mind (you know who you are)

Hey thanks for that. I myself have said on several occasions that uv-b will increase thc. Mainly because I've heard it said so many times. Have even heard that its use will cause hash (in suspension) to increase thc....or thcv as fin stated.
But being that I'm fairly well versed in these matters I've always crossed my fingers hoping nobody would ask why I thought this would happen..cause frankly I don't see how

So my question was partially to fuck with fin. And partially a real question. trying to figure where UV would fit in the equation and how..whether directly or indirectly its pretty apparent to most that mh/cfl produces better bud...

(Someone asked if thc was only produced in trichomes, this is my response......I'm quite fond of my more "in-depth" replies so you get the whole thing...(important bit is the beginning)

Thc is only found in trichomes. There are several types of trichome found on every inch of the plant even in veg.. Geranyl pyrophosphate and a precursor to olivetolic acid react, a c12 (for pentyl) c10(for propyl)polyketide, catalysed by an enzyme to produce cannabigerolic acid,. The production of Thc (and propyl)thcv cbdv cbd and cbc cbcv are controlled by 3 different enzymes Thca synthase being the enzyme converting cbga to thc through an oxidative cyclization of the geranyl group on cbga(of course this is a bit simplified for y'all) geranyl diphosphate + olivetolate <=> cannabigerolate + diphosphate.. cannabigerolate + O(2) <=> Delta(9)-tetrahydrocannabinolate + H(2)O(2)

This combination can only occur within the secretory cavity of the trichome through vesicles..

In general secondary metabolites are toxic and must be held in a storage cavity to prevent cell deathand indeed thca and cbga cause 100% cell death in 10 day old suspension cultured cannabis sativa cells at 50um(through apoptosis). The cannabinoid precursors do not have this effect and some can be found in leaf material The results of reverse transcription–PCR (RT–PCR) and heterologous expression suggest that THCA synthase is localized in the apoplastic space of the glandular trichome only

The trichomes themselves protect the plant as well as the terpenes inside. Thc acts as a defensive mechanism killing insect cells as well as the plants own cells. Cannabinoids must be excreted into a cavity to protect the plant and provide its defenses

So UV can increase cannabinoid content through olivetolic acid. Or atleast a precursor.. no that does not increase thc or thcv in hash. But it doesn't select for thcv and it relies on their being excess enzymes..which is the case in certain strains.....
So thanks I think I've got it now......this is kind of a big ramble but whatever

No thanks to you fin!

nice qwizo, i read over it, but it'll probably take another good 4 reads or so until i can digest it a bit better and make heads or tales of it.. appreciate the post as usual.. :D

well qwizo that was a very well written post.

I can say from my experience that the stronger/closer the light the more trichs that are produced...for me anyway. I know that the hid's produce a significant amount of uv light so there could indeed be a correlation there.

I have no way of knowing whether to attribute this extra trich production to the extra light intensity or to the extra uv they are getting or both.....my guess would be the last one though.

waaaaaait a minute. Isn't this getting a little to deep for a finshaggy thread?

Lol. No, I'm the guy that didn't have money for nutrients, or dirt, or light, so everyone made fun of me for years because I didn't have money to pay for anything they thought was "correct" for growing.

Sativas grow in those regions, and in some of those places the highest THCv yields grow as land-race.

Totally dude! nutrients dirt and lighting? Who need that shit?! Totally incorrect for growing.

YES YES YES!!!!!! Taffy! LOL

I SWEAR it's Finshag reincarnated. Two separate people can't both be this stupid.

You can grow with cheap florescent, cheap dirt, Texas reggie seed and Miracle Grow from your garage. That is what I did, and that is what you are mocking. But it works fine.

And not only did I use a cheap light, but light coming from the side and bottom instead of the top because I didn't have anything to hang it from, and it still worked the leaves just bent down.
