Long Term storage: Best way

I have an ounce that will take a long time to smoke, (low tolerance, moderate user) I figure I'll take out 1/4 of it to use and keep the rest in LT storage. I have a large vacuum sealer jar that came with my seal a meal. Can I use that? If yes, do I just put the naked but in there or keep it in the sealed ziploc bags it came in from the dispensary? I haven't opened the bags yet. Right now they are in a large screw top jar in the garage, in the dark, but I don't know if this is the best option. Fridge is out due to not wanting others in the house to see it.

What is your best storage method?

No don't vac seal..
The colder the better. The less light the better. Seal it up at 55-60% humidity

they have 62% boveda packs for really cheap. Throw one of those inside the jar with buds in it and toss it in the fridge. Should last a while.

Yes I do..
You can't vac seal a volatile compound..essentially you are purging away the terps, same process as how we remove the solvents from our extracts..but without the solvent what your pulling is strictly lighter terpenes esters etc..and this will continue until pressure equalizes with regards to the vapor pressure of said compounds..

Thanks Quizo, I dodged a bullet on that one. I'm storing a bunch of concentrates, kief, quiso, and bho wax this morning and was just setting up my vac seal but I thought I'd better do a little more research and I luckily ran across this thread. Also thanks Hook, for starting this thread, perfect timing.

Can't use the fridge. Has to be hidden. Our garage stays pretty constant, it would be in the crawlspace in the dark. But I read this thread on rollitup and sounds like it was too moist. I'm in the Pac NW so it's never really dry here. Guess my best option then is a jar in the dark? Sorry if too basic, y'all are waaaay over my head w/ all the terminology LOL.

Vac seal keeps out any air so I think it is a good idea regardless of what anyone else may think YOU (OP) should decide which to choose; just look it up on the internet and I'm pretty sure there is lots of advice on this topic but do not try freezing them buds or the trichomes will end up falling off (well some of them any way) but you can make hash with them.

Its not a choice between two options ..vac sealing literally serves no purpose at all
You won't be able to scavenge all the o2 to prevent mold and it will kill the cure and remove all the flavorful compounds..
What would be the advantage that makes you suggest it when I obviously am against it?

Bury a barrel/container with large lid underground, vac seal(not too tight) to fit more in. Its cool, dark and secure . Don't let anyone see you going to and from it. Try to put in sandy soil(easier) on a slope or up high to avoid flooding.

@ buds: LOL.

So the garage in the dark it is… Thanks everyone. I'll pass on the vacuum sealer. I googled storage options and many were gung ho on the V. sealer. Thanks for the info guys.

i use mason jars, covered with duct tape, a piece of fruit, and seal them ... I use a piece of an orange if you were/are worried about the fruit effecting its flavor you can use a piece of potato.

Just wondering, why would you duct tape Mason jars? They are totally sealable ( just like when canning veggies/fruit ). Maybe I'm missine something with that and with the fruit/potato piece. Not dissing your way of storage, just wondering about those two issues.

before figuring out the best long term storage was in a refrigerator best, i kept them in my room, i used the tape to keep the light out. Your right, the tape shouldn't be needed in a fridge, but laziness won me over on that one. I used the fruit/the peel/potato depending on how long "long" term is .. It helped keep it moist ... So if after a few months, id throw something in, seemed to work for me, just be mindful and watchful for mold ... Stuffs sneaks up on you fast.

My understanding is the best way to store long term is extract form dissolved in a alchool in a dark mason jar at a stable cool temp.

I also heard that delta9 THC degrades to delta8 THC in about 2 years no mater how well you store it ??

c-vaults go hard! But theyre expensive for the size. I like those vac containers at the store for "spices" and shit. the lid and container are machined so close that you have to hit a tab to let air in/out. They cant really be opened without hitting the button unless you try really hard. But the C-vault has been on my "when i make money to justify throwing it at that" list for a while.

But i have to get to the "have enough grown to not smoke it all in less time than itd be worth it to store like that"
