Paranoia while baked: a necessary evil? how to manage

After a 20 year hiatus I am reacquainting with cannabis. What surprises me is not only the strength of the pot now but the fact that I seem to get paraoid now, which in the past didn't really happen all that often. I'm wondering if it's my age? (not a carefree student anymore, older and more responsibilities) or could it be b/c the bud is so strong now? I've tried many strains with varied amounts of thc, indica, saliva, etc but admittedly the paranoia still knocks… Is it a matter of re-learning how to be high? :confused:

Does this happen to anyone else?

It happens unfortunatly.
For me a more indica helps.
I've also noticed the first time I smoke
its worse than the second.

Pot makes people introspective so it is possible you are a horrible person.

LOL! I am naturally in my own head a lot anyway. Thanks for the tip about more indica. I'm gonna go fire up some Purple Bubba Kush now and see what happens. BRB

My brother is the same way. He never got paranoid before, but now when he smokes a nice sativa, he gets paranoid, and thinks he is having a heart attack! I must say a more couch lock, Indica dominant strain, does not have this affect on him at all! He will smoke a bowl with me and we will have a good time.

Best way to combat this is I think comes down to tolerance. Start with the indica!

yeah man I am paranoid about like everything you need to learn to embrace it and use what are essentially hyper-exaggerated stages of deep thought for good instead of evil

i get paranoid on certain sativa stains, definitely stick to the indica. i only grow kush now, pineapple, master, kandy kush are all good you might try one of them :eyesmoke:

Not so sound like an idiot, but do you mean take smaller hits?

If you smoke enough you will be to hungry to be paranoid.
LOL Ahhh a diversion.., Bologna sandwiches w/ plastic American Cheese and mustard is a good remedy .

Thanks guys. I ended up smoking some PBK and then got wrapped up in the movie Rush. Decent film.

Sit and relax your mind before smoking, clear your head and enjoy the experience.. Smoke during the day at first, it is a primal instinct for us to be afraid of the dark. When you are high your more basic instincts take over in thus you fear the dark, even you know there is nothing to fear.

Never consciously thought of this, but intent can be very important.

UPDATE: since heeding dangerlow's advice, things are smoothing out a bit. On the same side of the coin, I have found that if I am bummed, not to just smoke…. it seems to magnify it. But to clear the mind and relax FIRST, then enhance that state with a hit or two, THEN the paranoia isn't as bad or non existent.
