Its weird every few hours or so i check my ph levels and they keep rising i know their is gonna be some fluctuation very little .2 or so but i usually keep it at around 5.4 - 5.7 and i notice it keeps goin up to 5.9 my res nutes are one week old and i change every week what keeps making them rise? i use RO water and usually just topp up the tank with ro water no nutes. Any thoughts guys? 25 g res.

i was under the influence that 5.5-6 was acceptable for hydro. Additionally your ph should rise in a healthy hydro setup, but not quickly. If you set it at 5.5 at your last flush and now a week later its at 5.9 thats not so bad.

most PH meters are also bullshit...be sure to get some calibration fluid and calibrate frequently. If you do not have a waterproof meter it is possible you got it 2 wet.

I have a Oakton Ph Meter and all the testing fluids i re-calibrated this mornig. The PH level will rise to 5.9 max so far. i adjust it back down to 5.5. Thanks for the input Grapeskunk but i am growing hydroponically not in soil, that is a PH range for soil grown plants. My i deal range is 5.5 - 5.7. I have a Truncheon Nutrient stick as well and it shows a drop in the nutes i guess the PH goes up as the plants draw more water and nutes? Can anyone tell me what the Pink bottle of fluid i got with the ph meter is? it says PH 4 Buffer Solution what do i use this for?

you probably have a bottle of GH 4.0 calibration fluid.

Since you are running hydro you have purchased the correct fluid. Soil users may want to calibrate using the 7.0 fluid for improved accuracy.

So follow your oakton ph meters calibration instructions using your 4.0.

P.s. oakton pens will break really fast...they wont only read wrong but soon they will just break. Get a Milwaukee next time.

yes I also paid many dollars for my ph pens. I have not used Truncheon meters so I can advise you on their quality.

if your oakton breaks I suggest a $60-$70 Milwaukee on ebay. Cost you 1/2 and last 2x.

good lucks

Was also thinking too, the ph could rise quickly if i used a cheap ph up i picked it up from a garden store instead of the hydro store. but i thought it was all the same.
