Defoliation Method Opinions

I am not looking to discuss defoliation as a general practice.

A method I have been using recently is to cut off pieces of leaf which get in the way of budding sites instead of the entire leaf. Anybody else doing it this way? Any thoughts on pros or cons for this method?

Your onestopshop for all matters cannabis, take a look around but I should advise you that the fabulous "Like" button, is broken, instead buried below is the equivalent, reputation button that works almost the same., so if you see or read something you like, well! you can't 'like' until it's fixed, but you can click the Rep button to show your appreciation.

It is not the bud sites which need the light, it is the leaves.

How about cutting off the fan leaves to allow more light to reach the lower growth of the plant, tried it and it worked and therefore created multiple tops which means more yield!

Try to remove as few fan leaves as possible, this is where the plant draws from the lights. if a fan leaf from one plant is blocking the light to another plant, then you should try to tuck it out of the way or tie it back. FAN LEAVES ARE IMPORTANT!! Heavy pruning at one time can stress your plant and stunt growth and yield.

this goes directly against the square inverse law which states that light fades very quickly, and leaves that are only a foot below others, will therefore only receive 1/2 the light as the top leaves.. therefore by cutting off top leaves in an attempt to get light to lower leaves, you're literally cutting off your nose to despite your face, as those lower leaves, no matter what, will only ever receive .5 of the light as the same leaves 1 foot above them, naturally it only gets less and less the further from the light source you get..

This goes for the canopy. Removing all small growth from under the canopy where the light doesn't reach is beneficial for the plant. This allows the plant to divert all its energy to the canopy and big fat colas.

Precisely. There is a radon that no matter how the plant is grown with regard to light being able to reach the lower growth, the lower growth is always airy and insignificant compared to the top growth. Get rid of lower growth, not the upper growth.

Again... Tons of reading out there on all this.

My question is: Anybody out there just cutting pieces of leaf off instead of the whole leaf? Seems to me this is a great way to keep fan leaves on top while allowing light to get down below we as needed.

The leaves serve 2 MAJOR FUNCTIONS,
they act as energy gathering surfaces thru photosynthesis and they act as a
Battery when a plant pulls the sugars from a leaf as it needs them killing the leaf.
essentially the plant reabsorbs the leaf by taking the sugars.
The leaves must be available for this process!
ALSO THE PLANT NEEDS THE LEAVES TO GAIN ENERGY.
( leaf turns yellow and shrivels )
tuck leaves, I do cut tips if they are burnt but that's it.
I don't remove ANY leaves unless they are all Yellow and dead.

I think the idea of "plant food" confuses most growers.
From what I have learned plant food is LIGHT.
nutrients are like us taking vitamins.
the more light absorbs tigon the better and faster a plant will grow.
Sure a plant can come back from being stripped and it might be bushy but,
if the original leaves were left I think the surface area would be double the defoliatedand re vegged plant.
Remember it's all science.

lots of good ways to cut plants, look at Uncle Bens tech, I suggest you try that on your first plants.
Then move into LST and super cropping as you learn and continue to grow plants start to finish.
read about using a Screen, another great way to control your growth.
good luck Don't Defoiliate, so many other avenues of plant training work so well choose another that's my advice.

damn I'm HIGH!!!
product of my own , It makes even better to me!

good luck, probable not going to get any useful info about from rollitup as 70% are against this and 30% for it, this will end up in name calling and get shut down in a week or two after 2,000 posts are on here

What do you call the above posts? Stop throwing a hissy because you didn't like the way your thread went. Deal with it. Don't drag your shit around the rest of the forum like a child. Why not add this useful information that won't be brought up by anyone else because of our ignorance of growing.
