Will definatly work with that kind of pressure. and with a chamber that large you can do huge batches of oil (2 oz's +)

With that vacuum punp and the way its set-up it will almost be plug and play when you get it... very easy to set up and use, so if your not comfortable making a DIY chamber this would be a good, price worthy option.

Just beware: If your going for stealth this will nor work... those pumps can be LOUD, like an air compressor loud (80-90 Db)....

Thanks for your input! From what I know it looked like the right thing and quality machine (no worries on the stealth I am in the boonies)

But I definitely will not need to run 2 oz's plus, more like a 7-14g maximum, would it be a better idea to just go with a cheaper smaller chamber/model?


Also, if using this machine is it necessary to decarb still? What is decarbing?

Decarbing I believe is primarily done for foods and topicals, it is converting the psychoactive ingredient thca to thc(I think?), generally using heat . I believe this reaction occurs at temps above 180 or so. The reason you do not get high when you eat a nug is because it hasn't been decarb'd. Once the nug is heated from a source such as a lighter , this forces the reaction thus getting you high.... Hope this helps you understand ,,, I'm relatively new to all this as well

For sure ... What sort if consistency are you wanting to start with ? What will you be using to extract ? There are many options , I prefer butane . I think shatter is easy to make with proper equipment and most importantly an infrared laser thermometer (Home Depot $25). Any advice on making shatter , let me know !

Hey bud,

as far as equip goes to start i will try to make a list off the top of my head...

-glass or stainless steel extractor tube, the ones that are smaller (hold 30-100g) require an inner diameter prob no bigger than 1.5 inch at most...if youre blasting more than 100g, the inner diameter prob could be about 2 inch...
-infrared thermometer
-unbleached (the brown) coffee filters
-zip ties (to tie coffee filter to tube)
-pyrex dish to blast into (8x8 works well)
-parchment paper to scrape onto and work with (not wax)
-a vacuum chamber (purchased mine off ebay ~110 dollars) (3 gallon has been fine for me to purge roughly 40g of oil at a time)
-vacuum pump...do some research with this, you dont want to buy a shitty pump for it to crap out and then spend more on a nicer pump anyways...just get the nicer one to begin with... i have a robinair 15600 2 stage 6CFM pump...yellowjacket is another reputable brand...
-the PROPER vac pump OIL, you cannot just put any oil in the pump, it will fuck it up and give you a shit product :P
-solvent (butane very popular) (vector/power/colibri are some different quality brands)
-a griddle to set your vac chamber on and this is where you do most of your purging. i use a presto griddle found at walmart but inorder to better control temp, i am switching to a Rival Deep Dish griddle also sold at -walmart. i will fill the dish with sand and then set the chamber in the sand.
-a digital thermometer to set in the sand right under the bottom of chamber to tell you the temperature of the bottom of chamber (once oil is in vacuum, the IR thermometer only gives you surface temp, since it is enclosed, you cant get the temp of the oil thus needing to guage it as best as possible (why i use the sand and digital thermometer to give a reading of bot of chamber, my oil is always 10 degrees less than that reading)
-scrape tools
-iso alcohol (keep sanitary)
-some sort of rod to pack the material very tight into extractor tube
-ANOTHER Pyrex which is BIGGER than the above one. 13x10 or whatever works well..anything larger so you can set the pyrex which you blasted into it...this is your hot water bath
-rubber gloves?? they help

I have 2 extraction tubes, a heating pad, a jelly jar, and a mityvac...total cost $86. I only purge for my own use to make BHO from my trims & nuggets. Oh sure you can go ahead & get all that shit if you want but you can make quality purged BHO with rudimentary equipment. It's the quantity you want to make that determines if you really need that 3 cfm vac pump or not..just my opinion but I think it's overkill to spend $300 to purge a g of shatter

Very good point! Equipment will definitely vary depending on quantity you intend on blasting.

im rolling with midnite on this one.... i run 4 Oz's of shake / low grade at a time (left overs that arn't worth smoking) and get 4-5 G's of oil every month~ but its not even worth it for me to get a Vacuum purge....

My equipment: Glass extractor, filters, pyrex dish, zip ties and a pot for hot water.. Cost to date: $80 + Butane

Unless your running 10+ grams of oil and selling it every month it would be better to just Whip purge your product.

^^^^^very interested. have you had any cases where you could not get it to harden up? whats the safety risk of purging this way?

the answer to both questions: Bad Butane, But thats a no-no in the first place.

Using proper butane (filtered and no petrol sweetners) the risk's are the same as smoking non-purged oil... still less than the amount of risk as smoking the flowers to begin with :P

In reality, with clean butane and a proper extraction (CLEAN glass tube to glass dish) a "purge" is only removing the small amount on non-reactive gasses such as Co2 and O2 which are trapped in the oil... a proper cook removes all of the solvent by using a small amount of distilled water to pull the solvents from the oil duering the cooking stage.... the higher heat also convert's THCV and CBN into THC and CBD....

True I've noticed it is easier to purge with "good" butane than bad- the guy at the head shop said vectors the best-but that's bullshit! I fund stok or power5x to be superior & easier to purge
