So everybody is an expert....well by readings hundreds of post over the last year I'm worn out.
If you hang out on these forums you know what I mean. For every question there are multiple answers. For every guy that said this another guy said that’s wrong. People post answers to questions that have no experience or a friend told them or I read that or he said this. Now this of course is not everybody but the vast majority of post are like that.
I do understand that there is more than one way to do it. People talking as if they are stating fact or giving out science as if they have a science degree in cannabis cultivation. Now there are folks that document there grows and share what they have learned from experience. That’s all good assuming that they are telling the truth.
So Where IS all the real science? Is it too early for science from labs about cultivation? Why is there nobody from working commercial growing facilities talking about the results they get?
The more I read the less I know. Please point me in the right direction if I just don’t know where to find it. I’m tired of the hearsay. I just want to learn more about growing with out the 95% BS filter on.

Dude, I hear ya:
there is even BULLSHIT &mi- information from alleged "well respected" growers...some of em even have stickies...

but honestly; not everyone can possibly be 100% right 100% of the time...that's just how it is...
NTM, the internet perpetuates slight misinformation, wives tales and general out right ridiculously wrong information....

I've myself been misinformed then passed on wrong info, and I'm a older long time gardener...horticulture is a big hobby of mine...I should know better for some of the bullshit, but still: I'm often wrong...

anyway, if its a bullshit witch hunt rant you are on: start with seed germinating, then work your way through all the alleged magical additives et et ...

hell I'm not convinced flushing is all that, or defoliation actually is a net gain, or "pre-soaking seeds" is a must or PK boosters work, or that de-chlorinating water is necessary or that Amber trichs give you couch-lock, or a 72 hour dark period before harvest works, or any number of things that you do to weed but runs horticultural contrary to every other known plant on the planet...

Its like any other site. YOU have to do your research. There will be all kinds of opinions, and yes, it seems there are a few people lately giving advice here with little experience. But there are a good amount of very experienced growers around. They might not always be the friendliest bunch but myself, I dont come here for love.
Look for a consensus on whatever the subject is you want to know about. If 5 or 6 people lean the same way on something, chances are better that the info is more valid. You have to be able to learn from reading who knows there shit and who is full of shit.

Even guys like Ed Rosenthal or Jorge Cervantes are sometimes wrong in their opinion.

It's slways up to the reader to discern the nonsense from the truth, especially on the internet.

Yep to coin a phrase there are multiple ways to skin a cat.... but as a cat lover I don't particularly like that expression.

There are multiple right ways and wrong ways of doing things, and as much valuable information as there is confusing misinformation, but like the rest of the interweb you soon learn the craft of wading through the bs to find the good stuff.

If I see a user posting obviously good info backed up with facts and pics... I will tend to take their word over someone making wild claims like 'shorter flower time with increased yield' with no facts or pics.....simples.

I wish you well in wading through the sea of bs, but remember there are a ton of great peeps here at RIU with a bunch of knowledge to share, and find them you will

Despite all the BS I was able to filter enough out for my first grow to be successful. Now I'm on my second grow and I want to refine it more.
I haven’t been able to cross the barrier when I'm looking for specific information. Like most things the technology will get better in time.

bro you'll find people try to elevate thier own rep/satus BY NOT ASKING questions....
I went back along time and read post from alleged "legends" of these forums and not a single one asked the rest of us "followers" a single question...
so basically these so called experts/legends became that way by posing as experts, never appearing to be weak by pretending to know it all already....

I won't name any names or call anyone out because God know that in total some of them would grow rings around me, but generally speaking almost all of them have posted total bullshit from time to time; I know that for fact...

A different perspective:

More users should search for answers instead of starting redundant threads. So much can be learned by searching and reading. Being lazy and asking questions already answered will usually garner a heaping helping of wtf.

Everyone learns to deal with problems as they arise, many mj problems new growers have are down to over watering or over feeding, using the wrong soil etc.
Research and reading is the way to go and soon you learn to nip issues in the bud before they really become a problem.

  • I'd like to add:
    Aluminum foil...
    Miracle Grow Products...
Clear [Able to see roots] pots...

These above Items are believed to Kill off your MJ Plant... If used properly they might even help!!

    How about:

    MJ Specific Nutes/ferts...
    MJ Specific Soils...
    Water PH on Soil runoff...

These are all make believe things that someone came up with, and were told over and over...
So, Wrong...on so many levels... [If you believe any of these are true... Sorry....]

Pulling leaves off will improve your plant:

When I read a variations of this I always laff....

Good Luck with all the bull sheiot here...

Well then do what I did...get ya some soil, some beans, some pots, and start growing...trust me after a year of trial and error, you WILL be able to look at your plants and say, oh they need to be fed, or oh they need to be transplanted, or damn those dark spots starting to form are P def, I better check my PH and see what my night time temps are...cuz then you KNOW what works for YOU.............and then you'll have an opinion too :hump:

  • Soils don't kill plants....
    Growers kill plants...

[Guns don't kill peeps, peeps pulling triggers kills peeps]

    Try and keep that straight...

Newbies.... You can grow in any soil... as long as you do not over water... under water...
Personally.... If you add 33-50% Perilite/Vermiculite for drainage .... you can grow in the crap soil right outside your back door....

I would consider putting young seedlings into hot soil as using the wrong soil

yeah, gotta agree that does get old but I also gotta admit I'm a lil guilty of that, but not because I lacked due diligence but VERY OFTEN you need a quid pro quo (exchange of info) on a few answers that older static threads simply can't give you...besides 50% of these redundant post are answered with the same ole "Google it yourself" replies...and I get that also

..and again, yeah some of it is pure laziness....

I don't know about being an expert but I've got good results for a long time and I do have a degree in botany. When I answer a question I am doing so out of fellowship and I only resp I nd when it's an answer that i can say for certain from my own experience from growing or my degree. I'm sure there are plenty of people who could still teach me things too though

Snaps *LIKE*LIKE* Yeah, your right. After awhile you get tired of people asking questions that show that they have no idea what at all their doing. You answer and add that READING about growing anything will help to start.....You supply the links to the books and they come right back and ask the same damn question again even after you and others have given the Answer! The idea that we'll teach them how here, and they don't have to "read up" anything attitude has backed a lot of GREAT old posters and helpers to sit on the wall and watch the traffic!

You get kinda tired of "How do I ____?" and "When do I ____?" and "Why did ___ ___ ___?" When the answers to those questions are right in front of their NOSE if they bother to look!

And then you have the bickering over who's OPINION is correct! Just look at a few post's above. It's starting in here!

I know I have opinion's too! I'm sure as hell not going to steal this thread by starting/fueling an argument on an above opinion because I don't agree with it! That's for another thread (and that subject has been covered to death in the past too).

Cannabis is an annual. And an incredibly easy annual to grow like the majority of them. Ignore all the hype and sensational methods. Stick with basic horticultural and botanical methods and knowledge and I promise you the plant will not let you down. Dont buy into all of the so called cannabis specific foods. They are only good at draining your pockets, not growing plants. There are certain laws of nature that simpy cannot be circumvented no matter what somebody claims. Keep it simple and keep it real...
