I agree, that criminals need to be controlled, and reducing the amount of criminals will reduce crime rates. Reducing the amount of criminals is a different topic, but as I've pointed out earlier in the thread, there could be easy ways to help prevent criminals from having access to illegal firearms.

If every one arms (or simply possibly may be) unrestricted as criminals do, who would try anything....do you not think that most ppl do the right thing most of the time on their own?

They were either smuggled, or were stolen.
By 'restriction on firearms' when you're talking about my stance, I take it you mean requiring locked gun cases, or cabinets, or gun locks, trigger locks, etc., when the gun isn't readied to be used, or in use? That's the only thing I advocate.
Seems people would rather have a trivial liberty (that honestly, if you're a responsible gun owner you have a safe place to store your firearms anyway) than actually help deter crime. I just don't understand that attitude. Meh.
It seems like people are arguing for the right to leave their firearms laying around, loaded, when they're not around.... Why would anyone argue for that?

There is no legal market in the USA for cocaine and heroine for criminals to steal from. That comparison doesn't equate, but then again there isn't really anything that equates. Nothing else is legal to buy except for criminals, and gets smuggled in or stolen from legitimate owners, for illegal use by said criminals.

Notice I did not say "hard" illegal drugs and that you left cannabis and other schedule 1 substances....hell even schedule 5 cough syrup off you list.
Of course it doesn't equate if you define "illegal drugs" in some random haphazard way....is this why you single out heroin and cocaine and the US? Did you see my edit?
Cannabis is a schedule I substance in the States and its use renders you "unfit" to purchase a gun on the bg form.....so whats up with this specifically in Canada?

EDIT: In Canada, you get a PAL or POL (possession/acquisition license) or (possession only license) by completing a course on safety and how to handle, load, clean, and store firearms. There's a written test at the end. You can also challenge the course, which I did. I was in the Infantry for 4 years. And no I was never deployed. lol
There's the RPAL for 'restricted' firearms, e.g. pistols and AR's (FUCKING DUMB RULE). It's a separate course, costs more money, and basically you can't use them for anything except at the range. Bullshit.
Anyone but criminals can get the license, over 14 years of age that is. There are storage regs in Canada, but I don't particularly agree with them. They are too stringent. When guns aren't in use or being cleaned, they must be kept lock, unloaded, or with a trigger guard, unloaded. I think that if I want to have a loaded gun on me at all times when I'm home I should be allowed to do that, or keep it close. (Although there's absolutely no need to where I live.)
Ok, so I just re-read and you asked regarding cannabis consumption; and I honestly don't know. I'm sure it's not good. lol
Drugs; Ok, we can look at any drug, but it's not really going to give us a good estimation of how the gun trade works. More Americans have guns than desirable Rx pills, or drugs that could be stolen during a home invasion.
