  • Observation and question!

I am in day 19 of 12/12 and have had no issues to this point at all, other than I think I vegged a one to two weeks to long. 3.5 gallon Hempy, 85/15 P/V. Three plants WW mainlined to 14, Ice 1 mainlined to 8 and Ice 2 mainlined to 6. Using Lucas for Hempy formula, MaxiBloom @ 7 gram per gallon. That puts me at around 900 to 1000 ppm, my rain water that I use is 61 ppm.

Looking at the plants under the LED today and saw some discoloration in Ace 1, Ace 2 and WW color is a little off but not bad. Took the plant out of the cabinet to inspect it. Here are a few pictures.

Though it is not showing up bad here on her buds I can still see some discoloration.

Not showing up as much as under the regular light but yes the some discoloration and a little leaf burn. I had attributed the leaf burn to not misting the nutes off the leaves when I feed, I do get some nutes on the leaves.

I pulled the plug at the base of the bucket to inspect the roots and there was no standing liquid in the bottom of the bucket but the stopper was damp so the system is not dry, they were fed/watered yesterday morning. pH was 5.89 and ppm of the solution was 980.

Well I decided to give the bucket a flush, so I pH'ed a gallon of rain water to 5.92 fill the bucket till the upper Perlite floated. moved the bucket around a bit then opened the base plug. I caught some of the solution and let the rest drain out completely. The pH of the rinse-ate was 5.98 but the ppm was 1296, I have never even come close to feeding that rich.

So I plug it up and refilled with pH'ed water to 5.88, did the same routine and this time the pH was 5.89 and the ppm was 1051. So I flushed and drained again just like before and the pH was 5.89 and ppm was 836.

I am going to leave it like it is and not feed/water till tomorrow as planned, but I may not feed just pH'ed rain water. I know there is enough moisture to carry it for the next 16 hours or so.

So my question is how did the ppm's increase to that point and what can I do to prevent it from happening again?

I believe the problem is caused by nute burn. Just would not expect a nute buildup in Hempy's. And since I am seeing some of the same action on Ace 2, I believe I will flush both WW and Ace 2.

    Thanks,

    GR

It is probably over feeding that has caused this.

When you under feed them they will grow longer roots looking for the food and water. I have seen grows where the gardener didn't exceed 500 ppm and usually stayed in the 300 ppm range.

Are you seeing any green on your perlite?

That is my thoughts, Mo.

There is very little algae but am seeing some gnats so I know it's there.

What I don't understand, well maybe I do, is the high ppm at that flush. My thoughts are that as the nute liquid sits in the 3+ inch rez that they nutes settle out and it rest on the bottom of the bucket and not being flushed with each feeding as the consensus says. So when I filled the bucket with pH'ed H20 and gave it a shake it loosened the nutes at the bottom and they came out with the rinse-ate. Or, the shaken solution also broke free any bound up nutes in the full column of the medium.

Well we shall see, they aren't at all like my soil Querkle grow. Learning is so cool! I will be adjusting my nutes down.

Oh something cool is that my rain water as of late has had a pH of 6.1 and around that. Had been in the 6.3-4 range.

I saw one guy who was just using water and air stones. His roots were so long!

He did this to show how small the requirements are for nutes.

On mythbusters they got bigger plants just by using microwave boiled water (cooled down of course).

Learning is the best high :)

Cheers,

Well, other than looking at those lovely buds you POST! But I do like that learning curve.

I have done both outdoor, yrs ago, and now indoor. I like the indoor as you have less worry with pest.

In the late 70's I grew two plants outdoors, one turned out to be a male, from seeds I got from a buddy who was a contractor for the Gov in Afghanistan. He said that he got them from a tribesman in the mountains where he was "working", said they walked him out to a field and ask him which plant he thought looked like the winner. He walked around and said he picked this plant and they ripped it out of the ground and gave it to him. There were 41 viable seeds and I want to tell you about the lady I grew.

She started in a small pot and replanted directly into it final spot, an area that got about 8 hours of direct light and the rest was all indirect. She was planted along side a mass planting of Columbia bag seed, which got ripped out of the ground after 4 weeks of watching her grow. This was in the early spring in one of the sunshine states and she was loving it, was fed the out of the box nutes that were meant for your garden.
By week 7 she was over 4' tall and three feet wide and I was pinching off tips regularly. Feeding and/or watering were daily as the hill I was growing on was a very very sandy loam, perk at about 40 inches an hour. So I had to water her daily, should have just put a constant drip on her and she would have been a monster, now that was a learning experience, LOL.

Started flower in early August at about 5' and bushy as hell, so many flower spots. I changed her nutes to cheapo flower nutes. My trailer was located about a quarter of a mile off the Hwy up a sand road. When I would come home from school/work and turn onto that drive, and if the wind was coming from the right direction you would of sworn there was a skunk ahead of you. Man drying that mass had my Ex staying at her mothers till I was done, LOL. That should have been a hint. LOL

At harvest she was almost 7' x 5', we counted 70+ substantial buds of 6" tall and over. It dried out at 2.4 lbs, and was so dense and very very very strong and pungent.

I have friends today that say that GR8een was and is the best they have ever smoked. I am hard pressed to disagree! And I have some dried leaves from that plant, if I only knew someone who could regenerate.
