The rate of gun ownership is supposedly between 6.6 and 13 firearms per 100 people.I think gun ownership over there is 1 in a 100 and you must have a proven need for the gun, similar to carry lots of money, hunting, etc.

The last time I was there in 2002, you could buy an Ak-47 for a few hundred dollars.
