your on the right path....you just arent using the right materials....check this out...it will work with hid or cfl...and its the best reflector there is...

its cardboard next to heat...it will dryout and either crumble or ignite....the later being a worst case...

Cardboard isn't the way to go over an HPS- if it doesn't ignite, it'll char and fall to bits in a few days.

but for CFL's is :)

anyway, theres nothing fire hazard, you have to agree with me with that. :)

that light in FAQ looks better than mine, but anyway, i think mine is pretty good, though :)

CFLs doesnt make such heat to fire, anyway, maybe its really good idea to duct tape all box.

yes..its very ingenuitive...however..it isnt practical...if it was practical lighting companies would be using cardboard as a cheap alternative rather than non flamable materials....but you will figure these things out on your own soon enough...good luck..i hope it does work out for you....:joint:

see..this is what gets people in trouble...while a cfl doesnt put off the heat of an hps...it does put off heat..and the more you put in the more heat they will put off....yes cfls get hot...:hump:

man, there is lights with paper. like japanese style, sorry, but ure bit paranoic. you know that CFLs doesnt make such heat as HPS. i would never use this construction to HPS light bulb. I tested the heat wich is into the box and i have to say its warm, but not close, infact its very far for any fire hazard.

but i have to mention, that im using 20w's right now. i will test them with ~70w or more ... maybe 40w's, if i wont find stronger CFLs.

afcorse, if i will feel that heat in box is getting to high i will think for something else.

im using this reflector for 3 weeks already.

all what i can say:
*thin foil is doing great job, no hot spots or any burned leaves. (i think its myth about hot spots) how many of you actually did burn plants by using foil? i got foil on walls and reflector. maybe HPS could make hot spots, i really dont know.
*no fire hazard (its bearly warm inside the box).
*wires are sealed in connector, no need to be afraid from electricity
*foam plastic doesnt melt, it even hasnt shown any signs of melting
*its easy to update this reflector. i made 2 more slots in it, and im using 1 40w CFL and 2 20w CFLs now.

PS i added one more reflector like this with 1 light bulb on side.
