LOUD @$$ Fan

I had a heat problem before with not enough air being ventilated. Got that fixed by streamlining the duct and connecting the fan better, but now I have a new problem of a loud ass humming noise coming off of the vibrating duct! It's like a wind instrument if you think about it, an annoying one like Kenny G. So how do i muffle this shit? I have heard of maybe wrapping the duct in some insulation... any ideas?

wrap the duct, hang the fan from rubber bungees, whatever you can think of to reduce vibration.

wrap the duct in what exactly? the fan is not really the problem it's the wind travelling through the duct that is making the noise so I doubt hanging the fan from bungees would make any difference.

wrap it in duct insulation. or get bigger ducting which won't reduce/funnel the air as strongly. you could also consider building a stationary trunk line from reflectix.

actually the problem seems to be coming out the end of the duct, so i'm not sure if wrapping it in insulation would matter much. imagine wrapping a trumpet in insulation but leaving the end open, it would still play as loud as ever.

I have that issue at the moment and will have to solve this before spring comes.
You can hear the wind from the fan when im outside my house.
I think catofcuriosity had it bang on with increasing the outlet pipe side. I have a 6 inch fan with a 4 inch outlet. Im gonna increase the fan outlet and see how much that helps.

Does yours have a carbon filter

yea that makes complete sense, having a larger duct. There would be less wind resistance and thus less vibrations.

Currently I have a 4 inch fan and 4 inch duct. Your 6:4 ratio sounds even worse than mine lol.

There is no carbon filter atm but i might add one; that would probably help muffle the sound depending where it's located.

Its not rocket appliances. The only set back is the price on 8 inch insulated ducting, not to mention I only need 3 feet lol. Maybe I can find some on kijiji

just wanted to give an update that I replaced the 4 inch wide duct with a 6 inch wide duct of the exact same kind, using the same fan, and let me tell you it made a world of difference! What once was before an almost ear-piercing dull hum noise coming off the 4 inch duct has virtually completely disappeared in the 6 inch duct. Now the only real noise is coming from the fan itself. Amazing!

So if you have a problem of a lot of noise coming from your duct just get a bigger duct!

If insulated ducting is too expensive, or if only a couple feet is needed...
... couldn't you just use some fiberglass type insulation to wrap it in?
You could find some of that fluffy pink batting for cheap or even free, right?
